Monzu, a 2004 graduate, is only the second men’s soccer player to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. The other Mauricio Azevedo Dos Santos, was inducted a year ago. Monzu, the first TNU soccer player to be named to the NAIA All-American team, was an outstanding defender who finished his career with three goals, nine assists, and 15 points.
Monzu transferred to Trevecca after playing his freshman season at Mid-Continent University. He later earned his master’s of accountancy from the Massey School of Business at Belmont University.
Following graduation from Trevecca, he worked for a Hispanic marketing firm in Nashville and traveled to Mexico to negotiate/organize pro-soccer events in the States. The company he worked for brought two first-division Mexican teams to play two games, one here at the LP Field (Titans) and the other at the Charlotte Panthers’ stadium in North Carolina.
In his last year at Trevecca, he worked for a company supervising remodeling crews. For four years he did that kind of work on his own. He managed small real estate projects for clients and did a few flip projects on his own.
He eventually decided to go back to school (Massey) and start a new career in accounting. After graduation, he did public accounting work for Kraft CPAs, and now he is in the process of becoming a CPA and working at Trevecca as a financial analyst.
Monzu was born in 25 de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina where he attended high school at Escuela Normal. He is married to another Trevecca graduate, Lorena Lopardo, who is also from Argentina.
