Charles Torain, a 6-2 forward from Hopkinsville, Ky., played basketball and baseball at Trevecca. He played three years of men’s basketball and two years of baseball.

During his freshman year (1969-1970), which was Trevecca’s second intercollegiate athletic team, he played men’s basketball. The team and intercollegiate program at Trevecca was started in the 1968-1969 season. Torain also played for the 1971-72 and 1972-73 men’s basketball teams. In those three seasons Torain scored 1,384 points to establish himself, at the time, as Trevecca's all-time leading scorer. A record he held for 10 years. He also set and held the career rebound record for five seasons.
In his freshman season Torain helped lead the team to its first winning season, 12-8, under head coach Bill Boner.
In his junior basketball season, Torain averaged 17.8 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game during the season, and in the SCAC Tournament, averaged 28 points per game and 14 rebounds per game. Torain was named to the All-SCAC Tournament Team and was the Trevecca Invitational Tournament MVP. The team excelled with a 19-9 record and won the Southern Christian Athletic Conference.
In his senior basketball, Torain led the team averaging 19.7 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-SCAC Tournament Team. Torain's highlights include scoring 17 field goals in one game in his junior year vs. Bryan College and scoring 571 points in one season.
In his first season, 1969-1970, he played for Bill Boner who would later become a U.S. Congressmen and Nashville Mayor. As a junior he played basketball for head coach Chet Foracker who was assisted by baseball coach Bill Green. In his senior year he played for Richard Haynes
He played on Trevecca’s first two baseball teams. Both seasons were under the leadership of head coach Bill Green. He was a pitcher and outfielder for the 1971 and 1972 teams. In 1972 he produced a .290 batting averaged at the plate.

Charles graduated in 1973 with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Sociology.
At the time of his induction into the Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame, He and his wife, Deborah, lived in Henderson, KY. They had five children, Tracy, Kelvin, Stephanie, James, and Shameika. Charles worked as the Director of Hillcrest Youth Home in Evansville, Ill.
Charles passed away on November 10, 2013.
