Women's Basketball | #2 Lewis Routs Trevecca

Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca women's basketball team (4-6, 2-0 G-MAC) dropped its second straight game Monday night, falling 96-71 to #2 Lewis University (9-0) at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

"I was really proud of our effort," said Trojan head coach Gary Van Atta. "We played hard, but we just couldn't match their firepower. You saw tonight why they're ranked 2nd in the country. They have so many weapons and we just couldn't keep up."

The Trojans are back in action this weekend at the Kentucky Wesleyan Christmas Classic at the Owensboro (Ky.) Sportscenter. Trevecca will face Carson-Newman (9-0) Friday at 3 p.m. and Cincinnati Christian (6-5) Saturday at 5 p.m.

Monday night's game was played at a frenetic pace, with Lewis shooting 55 percent in the first half on the way to a 53-42 lead at the break. The Trojans, meanwhile, shot just 34 percent and missed 11 of 14 shots from 3-point range.

After a sluggish start to the second half for both teams, the Flyers still led just 65-57 with 13:11 to play. But a 28-8 run over the next 10 minutes put the game out of reach and Lewis remained unbeaten.

"We've just got to keep working," added Coach Van Atta. "This team is still a work in progress, and we've just got to go back to work."

Kaci Britt Bell (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) paced three Trojans in double figures with 14 points, Briana McDonald (SO/Tullahoma, TN) added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Kylie White (JR/Clarksville, TN) chipped in 10 points.

Mariyah Brawner-Henley led Lewis with 21 points and nine rebounds, Jamie Johnson added 20 points, and Alexus Grayer contributed 19 points and eight rebounds.
