Trevecca Women’s Basketball | Trojans Drop Road Contest at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-2, 2-1 GSC) fell 80–61 to Alabama Huntsville (7-3, 3-0 GSC) on Thursday evening at Spragins Hall.
 
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES 

Trevecca continues to lead the all-time series against UAH, now 9–6 following Thursday's matchup.

THE MATCH 

UAH set the early tone, shooting 53.8 percent in the first quarter and knocking down five three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes to build a 19–11 lead. Trevecca countered with its best offensive stretch of the half in the second quarter, shooting 46.7 percent from the field, but UAH remained efficient on the other end. The Chargers went 9-for-16 in the period and extended their advantage to 40–26 at halftime.

Trevecca put together another solid offensive quarter out of the break, scoring 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting. UAH, however, continued its hot shooting from the perimeter, hitting four more threes in the third quarter to maintain separation. The Chargers led 61–44 entering the fourth.

The Trojans produced 17 points in the final period but were unable to close the gap, as UAH again shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the fourth and finished the night connecting on 17 three-pointers. Trevecca's late push wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, and the Chargers secured the 80–61 final.

THE TEAM

Trevecca shot 45.5% (25-for-55) from the field, 25.0% (4-for-16) from three, and 70.0% (7-for-10) at the line. The Trojans totaled 40 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, 4 fast-break points, 10 second-chance points, and 9 bench points, while collecting 24 rebounds.

UAH finished 53.6% (30-for-56) overall, 51.5% (17-for-33) from three, and 75.0% (3-for-4) at the stripe. 

THE PLAYERS

Cheyenne Trotter led Trevecca with 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting and added 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Jordan Gillies also scored 14 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 1-4 from three, adding 2 rebounds and 3 assists.

Brianna Burgess contributed 11 points, including two made threes while Tatum Shaw scored 7 points adding the only other made three. 

Shinae Howard Johnson added 9 points, going 4-for-4 from the field with 4 rebounds.

Trevecca stays on the road as they visit West Alabama (3-3, 1-2 GSC) Saturday at 2 p.m.
