NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-1, 2-0 GSC) continued its strong start to league play on Saturday afternoon, earning a 76–57 victory over Montevallo (1-5, 0-2 GSC) inside Trojan Fieldhouse.
THE SERIES
Trevecca picks up its first-ever win over Montevallo, now trailing the all-time series 2–1.
THE MATCH
Trevecca opened the game with a steady offensive rhythm, shooting 46.15 percent in the first quarter and taking a 15–13 lead after 10 minutes.
The Trojans followed with another efficient period, hitting 40 percent of their shots while holding Montevallo to 4-for-14 from the field to extend the margin. A 17–12 second quarter pushed Trevecca into halftime with a 32–25 advantage.
The Trojans separated in the third quarter. Trevecca scored 22 points in the frame, shooting 47.1 percent from the field and connecting on three three-pointers. The defensive pressure continued as Montevallo shot 3-for-10 from the floor, allowing Trevecca to stretch the lead to 54–40 heading into the fourth.
Trevecca closed strong with another 22-point quarter, shooting 53.8 percent while maintaining control on the defensive end. Montevallo scored 17 in the final period but never drew closer than the early stages, as the Trojans completed a 76–57 win and improved to 2–0 in GSC play.
THE TEAM
Trevecca shot 46.6 percent from the field (27-for-58), 35.3 percent from three (6-for-17), and 84.2 percent at the line (16-for-19). The Trojans totaled 38 rebounds, 15 second-chance points, 38 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, 9 fast-break points, and 11 bench points.
Montevallo shot 34.0 percent overall (17-for-50), 28.0 percent from deep (7-for-25), and 76.2 percent from the stripe (16-for-21). The Falcons finished with 31 rebounds, 18 points in the paint, 8 second-chance points, 15 points off turnovers, 4 fast-break points, and 23 points from the bench.
THE PLAYERS
Jordan Gillies led the Trojans with 25 points, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 3-for-6 from long range while adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Cheyenne Trotter contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds, going 6-for-12 from the field and 6-for-6 at the line for another double-double.
Tatum Shaw added 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting with 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.
