Box Score NASHVILLE – Mitchell Osnowitz's two-run triple to right center in the eighth inning lifted Lindsey Wilson College (26-13) to a 9-7 victory over Trevecca Nazarene (18-12) Monday night at Jackson Field in a non-conference baseball game. Both teams came into the non-conference batte on a hot streak Trevecca had won nine of their last 10 games while the Raiders have now won 10 in a row.
ÂÂ
It was an offensive showcase for both teams as they combined to collect 27 hits and score 16 runs. The game was a homecoming for LWC coach Jonathan Burton. Burton played for the Trojan program and later advanced to head coach for three seasons. The TNU alum is in his second season at Lindsey Wilson.
ÂÂ
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third, Trevecca would take its first lead of the game as Hunter Newman doubled to right field scoring Jordan Foreman who had singled earlier in the inning. Two batters later, Tyler Tichenor singled long the infield to plate Newman. TNU looked to increase its lead even more with the bases loaded, however Blue Raiders pitcher Aaron Mayfield struck out Cade Seeley to end the inning.
ÂÂ
After Lindsey Wilson regained the lead in the next inning with Osnowitz and Derek Shugart providing run-scoring hits, Treveca would again battle to take another lead.
ÂÂ
Mark Rayburn doubled to score a Trojan runner and two batters later Newman hit a sacrifice fly to left field plating another TNU run. The Trojans' final run came as Corey Crunk singled to right field scoring Foreman.
ÂÂ
Down 7-5 heading into the eighth, the Blue Raiders, coached by former TNU skipper Jonathan Burton, would score three runs to take a lead it would never relinquish. Jeandro Andino started the rally with an RBI double to left field. In the next at-bat Osnowitz crushed a pitch to right center giving LWC the lead.
ÂÂ
Trevecca would hope to rally from the deficit but Blue Raider pitcher Daniel Pulliam (4-3) would deny them. In the last two innings, Pulliam allowed just one Trevecca runner to reach scoring position and in the ninth retired the side. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Pulliam earned the win tossing six innings, scattering six hits, allowed three runs and struck out three.
ÂÂ
Osnowitz and Manuel Ozoria led Lindsey Wilson going 3-for-4 and 3-for-5, respectively. Trey Davis and Manuel Alonso each collected a pair of hits.
ÂÂ
Trojans' pitcher Rob Rowland (4-2) took the loss as he pitched seven innings, allowed nine hits and seven earned runs.
ÂÂ
Tyler Tichenor led Trevecca's offense going 4-for-5 with one RBI and another run scored. Crunk went 3-for-5 while Trae Weiss, Nick Howell and Rayburn each had two hits. As a team, 13 runners were left on base for the Trojans.
