Trevecca Golf | Final Trojan Results from 2025 Gulf South Championships

TUNICA, Miss.The Trevecca Nazarene University golf teams completed their first effort at the Gulf South Conference Golf Championships. The 2025 GSC Championships were played at the Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Miss.

 

Men's Scoring

The men finished sixth overall with a 297-309-310=916.

 

Maddox Burton led the team, finishing 12th, with a 71-78-74=223. Williams Moser placed 18th with a 71-78-79=228.

 

Maddox Burton finished fifth in the field with a seven-under-par average of 4.42 on the par-five holes. Burton finished with 11 birdies, seventh most in the field.

 

William Moser converted 31 par putts to finish sixth in the field.

 

As a team, the Trojans shot twelve-under on the par five holes, averaging 4.80 per hole.

 

The Trojans recorded 40 birdies over the 54-hole event and sank 135 par putts.

 

Women's Scoring

The women's team placed eight with a 340-351-344=1035.

 

Makenzie Norwood and Madison Hull placed 31st with a 255. Norwood shot 80-92-83=255, while Hull finished 85-85-85=255.

 

The team produced 13 birdies and 87 pars over the 54-hole event.

 

Makenzie Norwood posted the sixth best average on the par-four holes with a 3.17 average.         

 

Madison Hull led the team with five birdies. Audrey Reese carded four birdies, Makenzie Norwood two, and Ava Neal and Macie McFarlin recorded one.

MEN'S PRE-TOURNAMENT NOTES

The Trevecca men's team produced strong rounds as a team and individuals over the course of the season. The team shot their best 18, 36, and 54 hole totals at their own Music City Invitational. Individually, the team produced 25 par-or-better rounds this season. Maddox Burton leads the way with nine par-or-better rounds and the team low round of 66. He did that twice during the season. Six of his nine par-or-better rounds were in the 60's. Alex Hamm shot the second lowest round with a 67. Hamm scored three rounds in the 60's.

WOMEN'S PRE-TOURNAMENT NOTES

The Trevecca women's team shot their best golf at the Full Moon BBQ Invite and the Music City Collegiate. MaKenzie Norwood shot a team best 70, at the Full Moon, one of the best single rounds in program history. The team produced their best 54-hole team total at the regular season ending Music City Collegiate. The four of the five Trojans playing in the MCC produced their best 54-hole total of the season. Madison Hull shined bright at the MCC, recording the best 54-hole score of the season for the team with a steady 232.

 In 2017, Alexa Rippy became (NCAA Region Report) the first Trevecca and Great Midwest golfer to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships.

In 2015 Alexa Rippy advanced to the NCAA East Region and finished eighth. She is the first Trojan to earn her way to an NCAA Regional.

The entire team reached the NCAA East Regional in 2016 (Kaylon King, Alexa Rippy, Mikayla Dodson, Marlee Stecker, Haley Smith).

Alexa Rippy (2017) and Rachael McMahan (2018) both advanced to the NCAA Division II East Super Region as individuals.

Emma McCloskey reached the region as an individual in 2022.

The program overflowed with success in the NAIA / TranSouth era reaching the NAIA National Championships in 2008-09 and the NCCAA National Championships in 2011-12. The team won the TranSouth team championship five years in a row, advancing to the Region XI Championships every year during that stretch until the round was eliminated in 2008. The team finished in the NAIA Region XI top three in four of those seasons. The program saw three different golfers win the TranSouth Individual Medalist honor six times in a seven year stretch.
