CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. - Laird Williams and Maddox Burton lead the Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team through the opening 36 holes of the Citrus Intercollegiate, hosted by Nova Southeastern University at ChampionsGate Golf Club.
Trevecca posted rounds of 306-310 Monday for a 36-hole total of 616 (+40) on the par-72, 7,182-yard International Course. The Trojans are tied for 11th in the 12-team field with 18 holes remaining.
Laird and Burton are tied for 27th among the 74-player field at eight-over-par 152.
Laird supplied Trevecca's low round of the day with a one-over-par 73 in the morning. He made the turn at three-over before closing with a two-under-par 34 on the back nine, making birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 and playing the final eight holes without a bogey.
Laird followed with a 79 in Round Two. He added two more birdies in the afternoon and finished Monday with four birdies.
He was also one of the field's best on the par-five holes, finishing the opening day tied for fifth at two-under-par with a 4.75 scoring average.
Burton opened with a two-over-par 74 and followed with a 78.
Like Laird, Burton closed his opening round with a two-under-par 34 on the back nine, making birdies at Nos. 14 and 18.
Burton was especially effective on the par-three holes, tying for second in the field at one-under-par with a 2.88 scoring average. He joined Laird in a tie for fifth on the par fives at two-under-par with a 4.75 average.
Burton made three birdies during the opening 36 holes and continues to lead the Trojans with 34 birdies this season.
Wilson Borders is tied for 42nd at 10-over-par 154 (78-76). Wilson improved two strokes in the afternoon and his second-round 76 was Trevecca's low score of Round Two. He made three birdies Monday.
Paul Swanepoel is tied for 57th at 15-over-par 159 (82-77). Paul made Trevecca's biggest round-to-round improvement, cutting five strokes in the afternoon. He finished the day with three birdies.
Conner Williams is 66th at 21-over-par 165 (81-84). Conner made his birdie at the par-three 17th during Monday's second round.
More Trojan Notes
Trevecca counted Laird's 73, Burton's 74, Wilson's 78 and Conner's 81 during the opening-round 306.
Wilson's 76 and Paul's 77 moved into the counting column during Round Two, joining Burton's 78 and Laird's 79 for the 310.
The Trojans are three strokes behind 10th-place Wilmington and six strokes behind Flagler and Union, which are tied for eighth at 610.
Nova Southeastern leads the field at 590, followed closely by Keiser at 591 and Rollins at 592.
Trojan Team Notes
Burton's work on the par-three holes was one of Trevecca's strongest statistical performances Monday. His one-under-par 2.88 average tied for second in the field.
Burton and Laird each played the par-five holes at two-under-par, tying for fifth in the field with matching 4.75 averages.
Trevecca made 14 birdies during the opening day, producing seven in each round. Laird led the Trojans with four, while Burton, Wilson and Paul each made three.

Laird passed 50 Trevecca career birdies Monday and now has 52. Burton enters Tuesday with 248 career birdies, two away from 250.

Trevecca returns to the International Course at ChampionsGate Golf Club Tuesday for the final 18 holes of the Citrus Intercollegiate.
The final round will also close the Trojans' 2026 fall schedule, with Laird and Burton leading Trevecca into Tuesday tied for 27th at eight-over-par 152.
