NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University men's golfer Paul Swanepoel has been named the Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Week following his career-best performance at the Currahee Collegiate.
The award recognizes performances through Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Swanepoel led the Trojans at the Currahee Collegiate, tying for 13th in the 72-player field with an even-par 216 at Currahee Golf Club in Toccoa, Georgia. The 54-hole event was played on the par-72, 7,382-yard McCoy Wright Tees.
He posted rounds of 72, 73 and 71, closing the tournament with a one-under-par final round to move 15 positions on the leaderboard from a tie for 28th into a tie for 13th.
The 216 established a new Trevecca career-best 54-hole total for Swanepoel, lowering his previous best of 218 by two strokes.
Swanepoel also produced two par-or-better rounds during the tournament. His opening even-par 72 and final-round 71 give him three career par-or-better rounds with the Trojans.
His even-par finish also marked his first par-or-better 54-hole tournament total at Trevecca.
Swanepoel led Trevecca with 13 birdies over the three rounds, including five during his closing 71. He made five birdies in the opening round, three in round two and five more Tuesday.
The performance helped Trevecca finish seventh in the 13-team field with a season-best 54-hole total of 878. The Trojans posted rounds of 287, 293 and 298, with their opening one-under-par 287 marking their second-lowest round of the season.
The weekly honor is Trevecca's second GSC Men's Golfer of the Week award this season. Wilson Borders earned the honor following his fifth-place finish at the season-opening Griffin Invitational.
