Michael Johnson

  • Title
    Head Coach

The 2013-2014 season will be the twelfth for Michael Johnson as the head coach of the Trevecca women's golf program. Coach Johnson steadily built the Trojan program into one that consistently performed at or near the top of the TranSouth Conference and made inroads into the national landscape in the NAIA.

As the program moved into the NCAA Division ll era, Johnson has proven that his program is a match for the move. During the 2012-2013 season the Trojan women’s golf program claimed the first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship. It is the sixth conference title for the Johnson led program in the last eleven years.

Two of Johnson’s players secured the top two 2013 G-MAC honors; the player of the year and the tournament medalist.

Johnson led the program to five consecutive TranSouth Tournament Championships. In 2009 Johnson commanded the Trojans to their first-ever NAIA National Championship Tournament, placing 22nd. His 2011-2012 team qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament.

Coach Johnson has been recognized with the TranSouth Coach of the Year honor on five occasions.

During his time at the helm of the program Johnson's team has produced five TranSouth Tournament medalists, 20 All-TranSouth players, five TranSouth Tournament team championships, six other tournament championships, 25 all-tournament players, nine tournament medalists, two TranSouth Freshmen of the Year, nine NAIA Scholar-Athletes, three NCCAA Scholar-Athletes, and 20 TranSouth Scholar-Athletes. Additionally, Ashley Scism had the low score at the 2012 TranSouth Tournament, but wasn't officially recognized due to Trevecca's move to the NCAA.

Coach Johnson and his wife, Sarah (Adams), live in Old Hickory and have three grown sons: Chad (daughter-in-law Amy), Brian (daughter-in-law Ashley), and Austin. The Johnsons are members of the Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene.

Johnson served for two years as the men's assistant golf coach at Trevecca prior to taking the reins of the women's program. He also served as interim head coach of the Trojan softball team in 1999. Prior to his work at Trevecca, Johnson revived the Southern Nazarene University baseball program in Bethany, Oklahoma, in 1996.
