Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojans Picked 11th in Great Midwest Preseason Poll

NASHVILLE – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) released its 2023 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' poll, and the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans are picked eleventh in the 12-team field.

Trevecca finished ninth of 11 teams in the league last year. This year, the conference welcomes Thomas More University to the fold.

The Trojans visit the University of Alabama Huntsville on August 31 at 6:00 PM to kick off the regular season. The Trojans have one final preseason match on Monday against Covenant College on the Hill at 5:00 PM (CT).

2023 PREVIEW
ROSTER
The 2023 Trojan squad features 27 student-athletes. There are three fifth-year seniors (Zachary Polk, Cian Walder, Micheal Martey). There are ten fourth-year seniors. They include Connor Lundy, Douglas de Silva Moura, Marlon Grossmann, Cameron Hess, Orlando Jerez, Joey Houser, Heeseung Yoo, David Elvir, Nash Rust, and David Lehning. There are six juniors making 20 Trojans in the upper class. The underclass includes two sophomores and five freshmen.

There are three transfers joining the team this year. They are Joseph Collins (Eastern Florida State University), Tyson Belleza (College of Siskiyous), and Giuliano Palma (Emmanuel College).

The Trojans return one Great Midwest All-Conference selection, Marlon Grossmann. He was named to the second team. Grossmann scored eight (8) goals, second most in school history in a season and seventh most in the league.

2023 SCHEDULE
The schedule includes 17 matches, 14 in Great Midwest play. There are three non-conference games to start the season.

The Trojans season opener is away at the University of Alabama Huntsville on August 31. The conference opener is September 9th at No. 9 Ohio Dominican University. Then the Purple and White possibly face their toughest game when they travel to No. 2 Tiffin on September 14th. Trevecca plays three teams twice on the 14-game conference slate. Trevecca doubles up with No. 8 and conference newcomers Thomas More, No. 9 Ohio Dominican University, and No. 10 Kentucky Wesleyan College. Trevecca hosts No. 10 Kentucky Wesleyan College for the last conference game and senior day on October 31. The conference tournament starts on November 4 with the semifinals and finals on November 9 and 11.

In September the Trojans play eight matches, five of those at home. The last three matches in the month are away. In October, the Trojans hit the road for four of the eight matches. But finish the month and regular season with two matches on the Hill.

2022 SEASON
The 2022 edition of Trevecca men's soccer started hopeful with back-to-back non-conference wins over a pair of Gulf South teams in Alabama Huntsville and Union University. The Trojans were ranked as high No. 9 in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll last season.

Unfortunately, the team lost six of the next seven before getting back-to-back conference wins over Walsh and Ohio Dominican. Trevecca also defeated Lake Erie and Findlay in conference play.

Marlon Grossman has eight goals, just two short of the record for goals in a season during the NCAA Div. II Era. He had two assists and 18 points. He led the team in goals and points.

Ben Singer produced five goals on the season while both Jonas Grossmann and Jacob Sieber, each had three. Sieber's three assists led the team. His nine points are second on the team.

Jacob Sieber is third with nine points and Jonas Grossman is fourth with six points.
No one has played in goal aside from Adan Gonzalez this season. The sophomore owns two shutouts and seven wins. He has a 1.66 goals-against average and 61 saves.
Marlon Grossmann earned Great Midwest Player of the Week honors on October 10, 2022. Adan Gonzalez was the Great Midwest Defender of the Week on October 10, 2022.
