CLINTON, Miss. — The postseason run for the Trevecca Nazarene men's soccer team (6-8-3, 3-6-2 GSC) came to a sudden halt on Sunday afternoon as the Trojans fell 5-1 to top-seeded Mississippi College (12-1-4, 9-0-2 GSC) in the Gulf South Conference Quarterfinals.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca remains winless against Mississippi College in three all-time meetings. The Trojans also fell to the Choctaws 4-1 in the regular season (Oct. 26).
THE MATCH
The Choctaws jumped out to a fast start and never looked back, scoring three times in the first half. Russell Berko opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Alvaro Pena added a second in the 36th, and Berko completed his brace just before halftime in the 43rd minute.
Trevecca's challenge grew even tougher in the 28th minute when Daniel Shiel was sent off with a red card.

Jack Franklin gave Trevecca a glimpse of life with a goal in the 51
st minute assisted by
Christopher Jones.
Mississippi College however responded with two more goals in the final 20 minutes to seal the win.
Trevecca was outshot 30-11 in the match and faced heavy pressure all afternoon, with keeper
Hunter Walker tallying nine saves.
THE SEASON ENDS
With the loss, Trevecca's season concludes in the GSC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. The Trojans finish with a final record of 6-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play.
After enduring a difficult mid-season stretch that included five straight losses, Trevecca rallied to close the year on a strong note, dropping just one of its final six matches (precisely against Mississippi College) to secure a hard-fought postseason berth.
Chris Douglas, despite missing the second half of the season, led the team in scoring with five goals and one assist.
Daniel Shiel was a key creative force with a team-high three assists and three goals of his own.
Freshman goalkeeper
Hunter Walker had a standout debut season, setting a new program record for most shutouts in a single season. His efforts earned him multiple weekly honors, including two Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week awards (Sept. 16 and Nov. 4) and a GSC Goalkeeper of the Week award (Nov. 4).
Tom Hooper, who played a critical role in Trevecca's late-season playoff push, was named GSC Player of the Week on Nov. 4, after a brace and an assist in Trevecca's last two games; where they secured the final GSC playoff spot.
