LEESBURG, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (12-8) wrapped up the 2023 PFX The Spring Games. The Trojans defeated Southwest Minnesota State (5-12), 7-0, before defeating Edinboro (3-4), 8-0 (five innings), on the final day of The Spring Games.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans are 1-1 against Southwest Minnesota State, who won the previous matchup, an 8-4 loss on March 10, 2020, also at the Spring Games.

The Trojans are 2-0 against Edinboro, taking the only other matchup, 7-3, on March 12, 2020.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE NOTES:

The Trojans started hot as Kendall Andrews hit a three-run home run that also brought Anna Bennett and Jessie Brown to make it 3-0. They continued their hot start into the second inning when Kyleigh Burgett scored on a Jessie Brown RBI single. In the fourth inning, the Trojans added two runs when Savannah Davis was brought home on an RBI single from Malone Thrift. Then Thrift made it home on a throwing error to make it 6-0. Kendall Andrews would score on another throwing error by Southwest Minnesota State to make it 7-0 in the fifth inning. On the other side of the ball, Ashlan Sensing had another strong outing as she and the Trojan's outfield completely shut down Southwest Minnesota State's offense as they did not score a run on six hits.

EDINBORO NOTES:

The first two innings were quiet, but the Trojans had an offensive explosion in the third inning as they scored five runs. Kyleigh Burgett started the scoring off when she got home from an Alyssa Triner RBI single. Then Triner was brought home on a Jessie Brown RBI single. Brown later scored on a throwing error before Kendall Andrews got home on a wild pitch by Edinboro. Gracie Kirby also would score on a throwing error to make it 5-0 Trojans. Trojan pitcher Brianna Asmondy held down the fort as Edinboro was held to only two hits and no runs. Then in the fifth inning, the Trojans won the game on a run rule when they tallied three more runs. Kendall Andrews scored on a sac fly out from Malone Thrift. Kaylee Adams scored when Azaria Jones hit an RBI single. Then Alex Skinner ended the game when she scored on a Kyleigh Burgett RBI double.

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE - CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

Kendall Andrews went 1-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Jessie Brown went 1-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Malone Thrift went 1-1 with an RBI and one run scored.
Ashlan Sensing (5-4) did not allow a run on six hits and struck out three batters in seven innings pitched.

EDINBORO - CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

Kendall Andrews went 3-3 with two runs scored.
Kyleigh Burgett went 3-3 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored.
Alyssa Triner went 1-1 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored.
Brianna Asmondy (2-0) did not allow a run on only two hits while striking out four batters in five innings pitched.

UP NEXT

The Trojans will return home to host Union University on Tuesday for a home-opening double-header starting at 2:00 PM. The Trojans have a 4-2 record against Union and swept last season's double-header by a combined score of 20-0.
