LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team wrapped up its Gulf South Conference series on the road Friday, splitting a doubleheader with West Alabama at the UWA Softball Complex.
The Trojans (12-13, 8-12 GSC) dropped a high-scoring opener before responding with a strong
performance in game two to earn a split against West Alabama (25-8-1).
Series History
This marked the fourth, fifth, and sixth all-time meetings between the two programs. Following Friday's results, the all-time series is now tied at 3-3.
Trevecca went 2-3 last season in the series in Nashville and responded this weekend to even the all-time record, positioning themselves to take the lead in future matchups.
West Alabama 8, Trevecca 7 (Game 2)
Trevecca's offense came out hot, building an early lead behind a big second and third inning. The Trojans plated three runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI singles from
Annabelle Ellis,
Kyleigh Burgett, and
Shay Hollingsworth to take a 3-0 lead.
In the third,
Bailey Goad launched a solo home run to extend the advantage, and Ellis delivered again with a two-run double as Trevecca built a 7-0 lead.
Ellis finished with two doubles and two RBIs, while Goad added two hits, including her home
run. Hollingsworth also recorded two hits and an RBI as Trevecca totaled 10 hits in the game.
Despite the early offensive surge, the Trojans continued to battle late into the game, putting a runner in scoring position in the seventh inning after a single from
Sarah Kinderdine and a stolen base by
Brookelyn Miles. Unfortunately, the Trojans effort would not be enough as some late inning magic brought the Tigers back in front to take the win in game two.
