MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team closed out its Gulf South
Conference road series Saturday with a doubleheader split against Christian Brothers University at Bland Field.
The Trojans (11-11, 7-11 GSC) dropped a tightly contested opener before bouncing back with a strong performance in game two to secure the series win over CBU (6-23-1, 2-15 GSC).
Series History
Dating back to March 13, 2013, Saturday's games marked the 16th and 17th all-time meetings between the two in-state programs. Trevecca has continued to control the series, improving to 13-4 overall against the Buccaneers.
The Trojans have now won 10 of the last 12 meetings and improved to 6-3 all-time on the road against CBU following this weekend's series.
Christian Brothers 2, Trevecca 1 (Game 2)
Trevecca battled throughout a low-scoring contest, with the Trojans' lone run coming in the third
inning.
After
Kyleigh Burgett reached base,
Shay Hollingsworth delivered an RBI single to left field to
give Trevecca an early 1-0 lead.
The Trojans continued to put pressure on offensively, recording six hits in the game. Sarah
Nicholson led the way with two hits, while
Bailey Goad,
Sarah Kinderdine,
Shay Hollingsworth,
and
Kyleigh Burgett each added a hit.
In the circle,
Haylie Brooks turned in a strong performance, allowing just two runs — both
unearned — over five innings of work.
Parker Herrin added a scoreless inning in relief to keep
the Trojans within reach late.
Trevecca threatened in the final inning with multiple runners on base but was unable to push
across the tying run.

Trevecca 3, Christian Brothers 2 (Game 3)
Trevecca responded in the series finale with a complete team effort, using late-inning offense to
secure the series victory.
Trailing 2-0 entering the sixth inning, the Trojans mounted a rally.
Shay Hollingsworth singled to start the frame, and later,
Brianna Asmondy delivered a clutch two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.
Trevecca completed the comeback in the seventh inning. Addy Grace and Hollingsworth reached base to set the table before
Bailey Goad came through with the go-ahead RBI single to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead.
Goad also played a key role in the circle, earning the win in relief after tossing 4.1 strong innings
and allowing just one run.
Hollingsworth led the Trojans offensively with three hits and two runs scored, while Sarah
Kinderdine added two hits in the victory.
Trevecca's pitching staff held strong in the final inning to secure the win and the conference
series.

Trevecca Softball will stay on the road for Easter weekend as they travel to Livingston, Alabama for another GSC series against the Tigers of West Alabama. Game one is set for 5 pm on Thursday, Apr. 2, with the doubleheader taking place on Friday beginning at 1 pm.
