Trevecca Baseball | No. 22 Trojans Earn No. 2 Seed at NCAA D2 Midwest Region

ST. CHARLES, Mo. –  The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (32-10), ranked No. 22 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II poll and No. 23 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Poll, learned Sunday night they are the No. 2 seed at the NCAA Division II Midwest.  

Trevecca takes on Quincy University (28-13), the number four seed and an at-large section from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

The Trojans finished No. 2 in the final 2021 NCAA Midwest Region poll prior to the selection show on Sunday. The Trojan confirmed their presence in their first Midwest Region by winning the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference postseason championship.

MIDWEST REGION NOTES

The Midwest Region is hosted by Lindenwood University of St. Charles, Mo.

Regional play starts Thursday, May 27 and concludes on Sunday, May 30.

The games are to be played at Lou Brock Sports Complex    

The six-team double-elimination region field is made up of three automatic qualifiers (AQ) and three at-large selections.

The three automatic qualifiers are the conference tournament champions from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The final three bids go to at large selections evaluated by the regional advisory committee then selected by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee based on distinct criteria.

The NCAA Division II Championship field includes 48 teams spread across eight double-elimination six-team regional sites. The eight regional winners advance to the finals where the national champion is determined in a best-of-three final series.

CHASE SAIN

A former TNU assistant under Ryan Schmalz, Sain has led the team to 32 wins, the 2021 Great Midwest Regular Season and Tournament Championships. For his work, Sain is the 2021 Great Midwest Coach of the Year. Led Trevecca to its first NCAA regional and fourth Great Midwest tournament championship.
