Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Season Ends in NCAA Tournament with 7-3 Loss to West Alabma

TAMPA, Fla. The season for the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team came down to a game against a familiar foe at the NCAA South Regional tournament on Friday. The Trojans took the field at the University of Tampa to face the West Alabama Tigers for the fifth time this season. The Trojans had downed the Tigers at the GSC Championship a week ago, but on Friday, it was the Tigers turn to taste victory.

Trevecca (32-23) fell into an early 6-0 hole, and the offense found it difficult to get going in the game, as UWA (35-16) sent the Trojans home with a 7-3 defeat.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
UWA's victory gave the Tigers a 3-2 advantage over the Trojans this season, and it levels the all-time series at eight wins apiece in the NCAA era of the Trojans' program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rashad Robinson led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run for West Alabama, but while the Tigers threatened for more, Spencer Wilkins was able to limit the damage to just the single run in the frame. UWA added three runs in the second, though, and the Tigers plated another pair in the third to push their lead to 6-0.

Meanwhile, the Trojans' offense was stuck in quicksand. The first eight Trevecca hitters went down in order before Alex Fernandez belted a two-out double in the third frame. He was stranded at second, however. Cade Moore singled in the fifth, but he was stranded at third, and Trevecca did not get multiple runners aboard until the sixth frame.

In the sixth, Rylan Moses smashed a one-out double before Cade Martin provided some thunder with a two-run homer - his 16th of the season - to pull Trevecca within four at 6-2. In the eighth, Trevecca got the tying run to the plate as Fernandez singled before Moses and Martin were hit by pitches to load the bases with no one out. Noah Boughton lofted a sacrifice fly to center that cut the margin to 6-3, but that was all the offense the Trojans found in the inning.

UWA added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and the Trojans went down in order in the ninth as they fall, 7-3.
