Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Ready for High Noon South Region Showdown

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball earned an at-large selection to the 2026 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship and enters the NCAA South Regional as the No. 7 seed. The Trojans (32-21) open regional play Thursday at Noon (CT) against No. 2 seed, regional host, and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Tampa (41-8) at the University of Tampa Baseball Field.

The selection marks the first NCAA postseason at-large bid in program history and the third NCAA Division II Regional appearance of the NCAA Era for the Trojans.

Trevecca first reached the NCAA postseason in 2021 after winning the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. The Trojans captured the Midwest Regional in St. Louis before advancing to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, North Carolina. Trevecca returned to NCAA Regional play in 2024 after winning the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in program history before advancing to the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis.

Now, Trevecca returns to postseason play for the third time in six seasons under head coach Chase Sain, continuing the strongest stretch in the NCAA Era of the program. The Trojans enter the regional after advancing to the semifinal round of the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship while posting victories over nationally-ranked opponents throughout the season, including West Alabama, North Greenville, and West Florida.

The four-team regional includes three programs with recent trips to Cary, North Carolina, including defending national champion Tampa, 2023 national runner-up Rollins, and Trevecca, which reached the College World Series in 2021.

TEAM CAPSULES

No. 7 TREVECCA TROJANS
Record: 32-21
Conference: Gulf South Conference
Head Coach: Chase Sain

Trevecca enters the regional as one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the South Region. The Trojans have hit 66 home runs as a club and showcased their offensive ceiling during the Gulf South Conference Championship with a 13-run performance against top-seeded West Alabama.

All-GSC First Team selection Cade Martin has paced the lineup throughout the season, hitting .421 during postseason play with 15 home runs, 13 doubles, 43 RBI, and a 1.340 OPS entering the regional. Martin is attempting to become just the fifth Trevecca hitter in the NCAA Era to finish a full season batting above .400.

Rylan Moses earned Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team honors after hitting .526 over four games with a double, triple, four home runs, five RBI, and six runs scored. Caleb Webster also homered in each of Trevecca's final three GSC Championship games while driving in eight runs. Noah Boughton, Cade Moore, and Jaxson Christ have also provided key offensive production throughout the season.

Trevecca has now homered in eight consecutive games and has launched 19 home runs during that stretch while posting a combined slash line of .346/.414/.631 with a 1.045 OPS.

On the mound, Logan Harrell has led the pitching staff with a 3.17 ERA and 92 strikeouts. Harrell enters the regional fourth on the NCAA-era single-season strikeout list and just 10 shy of Michael Purcell's NCAA-era program record of 102 strikeouts. Harrell is also two wins shy of tying the NCAA-era single-season wins record.

Trevecca's pitching staff established a new NCAA-era single-season strikeout record during the Gulf South Conference Championship and enters the regional with 452 strikeouts. The Trojans need 17 additional strikeouts to establish a new all-time program record.

Ryan Sweeney also enters postseason play on the verge of program history. The junior closer has eight saves this season, one shy of the single-season program record, while also sitting three appearances shy of the program single-season appearances record.

Defensively, Trevecca is tied for second in NCAA-era single-season fielding percentage (.969) while ranking fifth in putouts and fourth in assists. The Trojans also rank among the NCAA-era leaders in runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles, walks, innings pitched, and saves.

No. 2 TAMPA SPARTANS
Record: 41-8
Conference: Sunshine State Conference
Head Coach: Joe Urso

Tampa enters the regional as the defending NCAA Division II National Champion and one of the premier programs in college baseball history. The Spartans earned the Sunshine State Conference automatic bid after winning their sixth consecutive SSC regular-season championship and the program's 25th conference title overall.

Tampa owns an NCAA-record 10 national championships and has advanced to the NCAA postseason 26 consecutive seasons under head coach Joe Urso. The Spartans have reached the NCAA Tournament 40 times overall and have advanced as South Regional champions 21 times.

No. 3 ROLLINS TARS
Record: 34-14
Conference: Sunshine State Conference
Head Coach: Jon Sjogren

Rollins enters the regional after another 34-win season and one of the strongest postseason résumés in the South Region over the last several years. The Tars reached the NCAA Division II National Championship series in 2023 and advanced to the College World Series semifinals in 2022.

No. 6 WEST ALABAMA TIGERS
Record: 34-15
Conference: Gulf South Conference
Head Coach: Eric Dubose

West Alabama enters the regional after winning the 2026 Gulf South Conference regular-season championship while spending much of the season nationally ranked. The Tigers were ranked No. 25 nationally entering the NCAA selection process and finished No. 6 in the final South Region rankings.

West Alabama built its season around one of the nation's top pitching staffs, ranking second nationally in team ERA entering postseason play. The Tigers split four regular-season meetings with Trevecca before the Trojans defeated UWA 13-7 in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Championship behind seven home runs.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Tampa have met once in program history. The Spartans defeated the Trojans 7-6 in 10 innings during the 2021 NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, North Carolina.

Trevecca and Rollins have not met during the NCAA Division II Era.

Trevecca and West Alabama have become familiar opponents since the Trojans joined the Gulf South Conference. Trevecca is 4-3 against the Tigers during the NCAA Division II Era and split four meetings during the 2026 season.

Despite competing in the Gulf South Conference, trips to Florida have been rare for Trevecca Baseball. Since 2001, the Trojans have made only two trips to Florida for games, including this season's NCAA South Regional appearance.

TREVECCA NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES

Trevecca is making its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six seasons and enters regional play with a combined 5-5 NCAA Tournament record. The Trojans went 4-3 during the 2021 postseason run to Cary and 1-2 during the 2024 Midwest Regional.

Trevecca's 20-hit performance against West Alabama during the Gulf South Conference Championship marked only the second time a team has reached the 20-hit barrier at Choccolocco Park during the tournament. The Trojans also established a new tournament single-game record with seven home runs.

After hitting one home run during the 2025 conference tournament, Trevecca launched 11 home runs in four games during the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship.

STARTED STRONG
After starting the season 1-3, the Trojans won eight consecutive games, including a sweep of Auburn Montgomery in their GSC-opening series.

Two weeks later, Trevecca added a seven-game winning streak, with four wins against top-15 opponents. The stretch began with a series win over No. 11 West Florida in Nashville. Trevecca followed with a three-game sweep at No. 1 North Greenville, completing a run of four consecutive wins over top-15 teams. The Trojans closed that stretch with a conference road sweep of Union in Jackson.

SEASON NOTES
Trevecca was picked eighth in the Gulf South Conference preseason coaches poll. Despite early injuries, the Trojans spent five weeks in the NCBWA Top 25, reaching as high as No. 10. Trevecca recorded five ranked wins and finished 5-3 against top-25 opponents.

The Trojans navigated early-season injuries, including the loss of shortstop Jacob Lester. Freshman Landon Rogers stepped into the role and produced a .288 batting average with three home runs, seven doubles and nine stolen bases entering postseason play.

Trevecca's offense developed into one of the most productive power units in the conference, hitting 55 home runs, the second-highest total in the GSC. Cade Martin emerged as a central figure in that production after moving into the designated hitter role early in the season.

The pitching staff ranks among national leaders, finishing 17th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.25) and 20th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.2). The staff enters postseason play four strikeouts shy of setting a new Division II-era single-season program record.

Ryan Sweeney leads the bullpen and is closing in on the program's single-season saves record.
