Box Score CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (3-6, 2-5 Great Midwest) dropped a road conference game to the Malone University Pioneers (1-5, 1-5 Great Midwest) 2-0 on Thursday.
The loss gave Malone its first win of the season, and handed the Trojans back-to-back losses after stringing together two wins over ranked opponents in No. 25 Lake Erie and No. 19 Cedarville.

THE SERIES
It was the sixth all-time matchup, and Trevecca still holds the series lead with four wins and two losses.
THE MATCH
Malone had the majority of shots early and quickly opened up the scoring in the 8th minute as Patrick Alvarez followed one of his own shots on goal by pushing one past Trevecca goalkeeper Isaac Layman for a 1-0 Pioneers lead.
Trevecca striker Bryce-Austin Wahy picked up a yellow card in the 17th minute and was quickly substituted for Nash Rust. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the half, and it was a 1-0 Malone lead at the break.
Although Trevecca outshot the Pioneers, more pressure on the Trojans' backline came late in the match. Kabanu Witherspoon doubled the Malone lead in the 80th minute, unassisted, to make it 2-0. The Trojans were unable to pull one back and fell 2-0.
DETAILS
Two Trojans received yellow cards in Wahy and Shane O'Connell – who was returning from a spell of missed time due to injury. Trevecca outshot Malone 18-11 and had one less shot on target with five.
Freshman goalie Isaac Layman saved three attempts for the Trojans.
WHAT'S NEXT
Only two regular-season matches remain for Trevecca, as the Trojans stay on the road to play at Walsh University on Saturday.
Trevecca will return home to host the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots – the No. 13 team in the country – on April 15 in the regular-season finale.
Great Midwest Tournament play begins on April 24.
