NASHVILLE — After a week layoff, and fresh off their first ever ranking in the United Soccer Coaches' poll, the 20th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team returned home for the first of their final three matches of the 2026 regular season. Trevecca welcomed the Spring Hill College Badgers to Nashville for what proved to be a history-making evening at the Trojan Soccer Pitch.
Hunter Walker set program NCAA-era records for single-season and career clean sheets, and Chris Douglas posted a hat trick, as the Trojans (10-1-2, 5-1-2 GSC) surged past the Badgers (0-7-3, 0-6-2 GSC) with a 4-0 victory.
Walker's shutout was his sixth of the season, which breaks his own record from a season ago. The sophomore from Franklin, Tennessee also now has 11 career clean sheets, which breaks the career record of Braydon Brown who had 10.5 from 2011-14. On the offensive side, Douglas now has 30 points this season, to go with 13 goals scored - both of which set new single season program bests for the NCAA era of Trevecca soccer. The previous record for goals was 10 from Jonathan Baskin in 2012, while the previous best points mark was 25 set by Jeremiah Wright in 2013.
The win ties the overall program record of 10 wins which was set by Stan Herod's final Trevecca team in 2003.The 2003 Trojans finished 10-9-2. With two matches left in the GSC race, Trevecca sits just one point behind the University of Alabama-Huntsville, and three points behind the Warhawks of Auburn University Montgomery. However, Trevecca has six available points remaining in the GSC, while UAH only has three points left available. If Trevecca wins out the Trojans would finish the season with at least a share of the GSC crown.
THE SERIES
The meeting was the fourth all-time between Spring Hill and Trevecca. The Trojans have won both matches played in Nashville, which have both been played in the last three years. The first match was a 1-1 stalemate played back in 2008 in Mobile, Alabama.
THE MATCH
The teams struggled to find opportunities early in the match, as the Trojans and Badgers packed things in tightly on the defensive end of things. As the half wore on, the Trojans pushed forward, but through the first 40 minutes of play, the Trojans had only three shots, and the Badgers only had one.
In the 43rd minute, though, Trevecca broke through, and it was Chris Douglas who struck pay dirt. Douglas netted his 11th goal of the season, and it was just the start of his night. Daniel Shiel hit the post in the 67th minute, and Douglas tapped home the rebound for his second of the night. Douglas capped off the hat trick 11 minutes later when he headed home a beautiful cross from Shiel for his 13th goal of the year. His hat trick moved him into first place in Division II in goals per match at 1.18. Douglas is also in a tie for second in Division II in total goals.
Levi Jones added a goal between the first and second tallies from Douglas, marking his first tally since the season opener against King University. Shiel and Hayden Brown each had a pair of assists in the contest as well.
