LAKELAND, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team finished 15th after the opening round of the Florida Southern hosted Matlock Invitational. The Trojans produced a 304-322=626 amongst numerous nationally ranked schools.

The Matlock Invitational was played at the local Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland. The course played to a par of 72 over 7065 yards. The 54-hole event consists of 36 holes on Monday with 18 holes to be played on Tuesday.
There are 15 teams and 81 golfers competing.
TROJANS ON THE LEADERBOARD
TREVECCA PLAYER NOTES
By collecting five birdies on the day, Blain Turner turned in the fourth-best par three scoring with a two-over 3.25.
Turner was able to drop five strokes in round two moving him up the leaderboard after collecting a total of 20 pars.
Ryan Rozic's day was highlighted by five birdies and 17 pars as the senior carded a team-best first-round score of 74.
Ryan Demit received a birdie on six in the second round and 19 holes of par.
Solomon Zarling shot even on the front nine in round one where he birdied consecutive holes on two and three. During the second round, Zarling once again birdied three, where he collected his third birdie of the afternoon. Zarling scored par on 17 holes.
Conner Conkel finished the day with two birdies and 15 pars. Conkel's first round on the back nine saw him shoot four over.
THE FIELD: TEAMS
Columbus State shot a consistent 289-289=578 to strengthen its grip on the leaderboard. The Cougars 578 is just two strokes over par and is eight strokes ahead of hosts Florida Southern. Though Trevecca is the only Great Midwest school competing, the Trojans are in familiar company as tournament hosts Florida Southern eliminated them in the NCAA National Championships just a season ago. Also competing from the Trojans historic run is Lynn University and West Florida.
THE FIELD: INDIVIDUALS
Florida Tech's Max O'Hagan dropped from two to nine under par with his 69-66=135 outing. O'Hagan saw the hole well recording 10 birdies with just one bogey on the day. The only other individual under par is Jordan Doull from Columbus State who shot 67-73=140 and sits just four strokes behind O'Hagan. Four others shot an even 144 on the day.
WHAT'S NEXT
Day two of the Matlock Invitational concludes tomorrow as the Trojans look to climb up the leaderboard with a 1:00 PM tee time.
