BIRMINGHAM – The Gulf South Conference announced Trevecca Nazarene University's Maddox Burton as the 2026 GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete for men's golf following the conclusion of the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championships.
Burton becomes the first men's golfer in Gulf South history to earn the award in back-to-back seasons and is the second Trojan across all sports to receive the honor during the 2025-26 academic year.
A native of Irving, Texas, Burton previously earned the distinction in 2025. The junior continues to build his resume on the course and in the classroom.
Tatum Shaw of the Trevecca women's basketball team also earned the award earlier this season.
The GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete Award has been presented annually since the 2019-20 academic year. The honor is awarded at the final site of each GSC Championship event to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among participating teams. GPA is based on the most recently completed term, and nominees must have completed a minimum of 48 credit hours. Student-athletes may earn the award once per academic year.
