NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (1-7) lost a Friday doubleheader with Grand Valley State University (2-0) at Jackson Field for the Ed Stewart Classic. The Trojans lost to the Lakers, 5-2, in game one and 10-4 in game two.

In the top of the first Grand Valley scored a run on a solo home run by Keith Browning …  the Lakers scored three runs in the top of the second on three hits and a Trojan error for a 4-0 lead … Patrick Reed (SR/Murfreesboro, TN) put the Trojans on the board with his second homer of the year … GVSU got the run back in the top of the fifth on a hit and a Trojan error … Patrick Reed reached on a single that eventually scored Tyler Burns (JR/Tullahoma, TN), who led off the fifth with a walk, on a throwing error by the Lakers …

GVSU scored four runs in the first inning as a couple of RBI singles plated the four runs … TNU got its first run in the game in the fourth inning as Griffin Ganick (JR/Brentwood, TN) scored on a Bryson Shelton (SR/Powell, TN) sacrifice fly to make it 5-1 … In the fifth Cameron Boyett (SR/Rockvale, TN) scored on a balk to narrow the deficit to 5-2 … Tyler Burns drove in Ethan Hurt (JR/Pegram, TN) in the sixth to make the score 6-3 … the seventh inning featured four runs by the Lakers in the top of the frame and Chandler Miller (FR/Marietta, GA) scored in the bottom of the frame for the Trojans, scoring off of a lead off triple when Griffin Ganick reached on an error

The Trojans face Ashland University (0-0) on Saturday for a pair of games beginning at 3:30  PM. The two teams will be playing against each other for the first time. Prior to the second game, about 6:30 PM start, the team will welcome the family, friends, and former players of Ed Stewart who this year's Trojan Classic is named for. Also joining the team will be former Trevecca coach and Trojan Hall of Famer Elliot Johnson. Johnson coached Ed Stewart. Johnson also coached current Trevecca head coach Ryan Schmalz.
