Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Run Into Red-Hot DSU Offense, Drop Series Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Pitching has been a big part of the story for the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball story in 2026. Trevecca has pitched well in the Gulf South Conference slate, but on Friday, they ran into a deep and talented offense from Delta State University.

DSU (22-15, 15-10 GSC) took the lead on the second batter of the game, and the Statesmen never looked back. Trevecca (27-13, 17-8 GSC) had a hard time getting their offense going in the game, and the Trojans dropped the series opener to the Statesmen 15-0.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Delta State's win improves their record in the all-time series to 4-1, and it keeps Trevecca from claiming back-to-back victories over DSU for the first time.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Delta Stats struck first in the game, as Tucker Jones led off with a single, and he hitched a ride home on Levi Lang's two-run home run that broke the seal. Lang belted a second round-tripper in the top of the third, and in the fourth the Statesmen added another run on a two-out RBI single from Landon Holliman that pushed the DSU lead to 4-0.

Drew Bradley singled to right field for the Trojans' first hit of the game in the bottom of the second, but he was erased when Caleb Webster bounced into a 5-4-3 double play. Landon Rogers had a one out single in the third, but another double play grounder - this one a 6-4-3 twin killing - squelched the Trojans opportunity.

In the sixth, DSU broke the game wide open. DSU sent 12 men to the plate, and they chased home eight runs in the frame, aided by two walks, a hit batsman, and two errors. DSU also notched five hits in the inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Lang, and a two-run single from Drew Prosek.

That was plenty for Adrian Byrd. Byrd, the GSC's ERA leader, faced only one threat from the Trojans when Cade Martin and Noah Boughton singled to open the fourth inning. But Byrd recovered to get the next three and escape without damage in the frame.

DSU added three more runs in the top of the seventh on a home run from Bo Rock.

Trevecca managed only five hits in the game, all singles, and DSU took the win 15-0.
