Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojan Rally Falls Goal Short at Ohio Valley

Vienna, W.Va. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (1-2-1, 0-1-1 G-MAC) came up short in their comeback attempt at in a road Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) at Ohio Valley University (2-2-0, 2-0-0 G-MAC), 3-2 at the OVU Soccer Field.

 

It is the third win in a row in the series for OVU over TNU. Trevecca is now 4-3-1 all-time versus the Scots.

 

Trevecca returns home for a match against Lee University (1-3) on Tuesday at 7 PM. Lee leads the all-time series 4-0-2. The only meeting since 2004, when the teams were members of the TranSouth Athletic Conference, took place last year in Cleveland, Tenn. The Flames won the match 4-0.

 

Malone University (1-2-1, 0-1-1 G-MAC) visits Thursday at 7:30 PM. The meeting will be the first for the Trojans against the Cavaliers. Malone is in their first year of membership in the G-MAC.

 

The Fighting Scots three goals on the Trojans in the first 45:33, but the Trojans closed the gap to just one goal with a pair of second half goals at 50:40 and 66:45 and had plenty of time to try and connect on the equalizer, but came up short in the end.

 

OVU scored the first of three unanswered in the 22nd minute when Diego Thielen scored on a deflection off Trojan keeper Tyler Delgado. Just more than a minute and a half later Camilo Sarmiento scored a goal on a header from a corner kick.

 

Trevecca only produced three shots towards Scott deeper Carlos Rubio in the first half. Just one was ruled to be on goal.

 

Then with 33 seconds gone in the second half the Scots scored again with

Nicolas Rodriguez scoring for a 3-0 Scot advantage.

 

At 50:40 Nicholas Reinhard scored unassisted and Baylor McKay made it a one score game with a goal at 66:45. Reinhard assisted on the McKay goal.

 

Trevecca only had three shots on goal in each period and aside from the two goals only gave Scott keeper on other save opportunity.
