Trevecca Softball | Now 10-0 in G-MAC with Sweep of Ohio Valley

VIENNA, W.Va. - The Trevecca Nazarene University Softball team (17-5, 9-0 G-MAC) defeated Ohio Valley University (4-26, 0-9 G-MAC) 10-0 (5 innings) in game one and   in game two at Jackson Park Field. The Trojans have won eight in a row and are 14-1 over their last 15 games. 

 

Trevecca will return home before heading to Owensboro, Ky. to face Kentucky Wesleyan College on April 8 at Noon. Trevecca's next home date is April 10-11 when they host Cedarville for four games, two per day. The double header on Saturday, the 11th, will serve as Senior Day for the three Trojan seniors.

 

GAME ONE

Trevecca scored the first run of the game in the second inning and led 1-0 until they added two runs in the top of the fourth. Trevecca forced the 8-run rule into action with seven runs in the fifth. Trevecca ended the game with 10 hits and an error and limited OVU to four hits.

 

Lindsey Stephens (SR/Somerset, Ky.) continued to carry a hot bat with a 3-for-3 game that included three runs scored, two RBI, a double, a stolen base, and a triple. Ansley Brantley (JR/Kite, Ga.) had a pair of doubles and a stolen base. Alex Richardson (SO/Ten Mile, Tenn.) was 2-for-2 with a stolen base.

 

Haley Fagan (JR/Cornersville, Tenn.) is now 10-2 with the win in the circle. She pitched the complete game for the shutout and allowed just four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four Scots.

 

In the seven-run seventh Trevecca had four hits and benefitted from four Scot errors.

 

Ansley Brantley doubled and stole third with one away in the inning. Bailey Alexander (FR/Glasgow, Ky.) singled with a bunt, scoring Brantley from third. Alexander moved to second with a stolen base, and then scored when Danielle Tyson (FR/Smithville, Tenn.) reached on an error. Mackenzie Leding (SR/Springfield, Tenn.) followed with a double to left scoring Tyson. Leding stole third before Lindsey Stephens drove her in with a triple. Alex Richardson walked then scored along with Stephens following errors that occurred during Shelby Andrews (JR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) reaching on a fielder's choice error by the catcher.

 

GAME TWO

Trevecca scored two in the third before seeing the Scots tied the game with two in the fourth. Trevecca tacked on three in the fifth.

 

Kayla Richards (SO/Cedar Hill, Tenn. ) was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kat Burbrink (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Bailey Alexander was 1-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base, a double, and an RBI.

 

Sammie Jo Ivy (FR/Enville, Tenn. ) (1-0) started the game and picked up her first win of the year, her second career win, with a seven inning five-hit performance. Ivy allowed just two runs – both unearned and walked two while striking out six.

 

In the key fifth inning, three one-out singles plated the first run in the inning for the Trojans. Pitcher Sammie Jo Ivy singled first, then Danielle Tyson and Lindsey Stephens followed with singles. On Stephens single, there was an error that moved all the runners up a base and allowed Ivy to score. An out later Kat Burbrink singled to left scoring Tyson and Stephens for a 5-2 Trevecca lead.
