Trevecca Softball | Trojans Secure First GSC Series Win with 8-6 Victory Over Mississippi College

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team closed out its Gulf South Conference series with an 8-6 victory over Mississippi College on Saturday at the Trevecca Softball Complex.

With the win, the Trojans (9-10, 5-10 GSC) secured their first conference series victory of the season over Mississippi College (18-12, 9-6 GSC), using timely hitting and a balanced effort in the circle.

Not only is it the first series win of the year in the GSC, but the two wins are also the first for Trevecca over Mississippi College all-time. The Choctaws had won the first five games in the series. MC leads the all-time series 6-2.

Trevecca 8, Mississippi College 6
Trevecca jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, putting pressure on Mississippi College from the opening inning.

The Trojans struck first in the bottom of the first as Addy Grace Summers singled and came around to score, followed by another run crossing the plate to give Trevecca a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, Trevecca delivered the biggest offensive surge of the game. After Kyleigh Burgett and Shay Hollingsworth reached base, Annalise Mecklenburg crushed a three-run home run to center field, extending the lead to 5-1.

The Trojans continued to build their advantage in the middle innings. Bailey Goad drove in a run with a double in the fourth, and Kyleigh Burgett added an RBI groundout in the third to keep the offense rolling.

In the fifth inning, Sarah Nicholson added an important insurance run with a solo home run to left field, the first home run of her senior season, pushing the Trevecca lead to 8-3.

In the circle, Bailey Goad (6-4) earned the win after throwing 4.1 innings, while Parker Herrin provided key middle relief. Haylie Brooks closed the door in the seventh inning to secure the victory and earn the save.
