Trevecca Baseball | Aiken Sweeps Opening Series with Trojans

AIKEN, S.C. - Number 14 USC Aiken improved to 6-0 on the year with a 17-5 win over Trevecca (0-3) and completed a series sweep at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Trevecca returns to Nashville where they'll host nine of their next 10 contests at Jackson Field, beginning with their home opener on Friday, February 13 when Maryville University-St. Louis (0-2) visits for a 3 p.m. contest.

The Pacers scored three in the bottom of the first and Trevecca equalled that with a three-run top of the third. Aiken took the lead for good though with a four-run bottom of the third and matched that in the fourth before putting five runs on the board in the fifth. The hosts added a final tally in their seventh and Trevecca tacked on two in the eighth for the final score.

Bryan Smith (SO/Unionville, Tenn) (0-1) started and took the loss with two innings of work. The sophomore allowed three runs, all earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out one. Trevor Hutto (1-0) got the win for the Pacers with five innings of four-hit pitching. He allowd three runs, all earned, and gave up a walk while striking out six Trojans.

Hunter Newman (JR/Chapmansboro, Tenn.) paced the offense for Trevecca with a 2-4 day at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. The junior added in his second home run of the year. Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) drove in the other run and scored a run with a 1-4 day and a stolen base.
