Treveccca | NCAA Division II Era Officially Begins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Five of the 15 Trevecca University intercollegiate athletic teams (@TNUsports) embark on their inaugural season as a full and active NCAA Division II member this weekend (September 4 and 5).

After capping a three-year process transitioning to the NCAA, Trevecca was granted full membership, making them eligible for post-season considerations beginning September 1.

Women's soccer (@TNUwSoccer) opens their season with the first official NCAA Division II home event in Trevecca history on Friday, September 4. The Trojan's will host Union University who is also making their Division II debut this season. The match will take place at the Trojan Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. To help celebrate the inaugural NCAA Division II weekend, the team welcomes The Food Dudes (@TheFoodDudesTN) food truck on Friday. Come grab a bite to eat before the game and cheer the Trojans on to victory with a full belly.   

 

The Trojan's return four G-MAC All-Conference Honorees. Brooke Gann (SR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Anna Hoffman (JR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) received G-MAC All-Conference Second Team honors a year ago. Gann netted a team-high five goals a season ago. Hoffman added four goals of her own and an assist to the total. Sisters, Ryan and Abbie Alosi (SO/Ooltewah, Tenn.) received Honorable Mention honors.

Men's soccer (@TNUmSoccer) is the first program to participate in a Division II event traveling to Pensacola, Fla. to take on the University of West Florida on Thursday, September 4. That match is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.

 

After the trip to Fla., the men return home for a Saturday, September 6 match against Southern Indiana at 5 p.m. at the Trojan Soccer Complex. The Food Dudes (@TheFoodDudesTN) return for your eating convenience on Saturday.

 

The men's soccer program returns three that received 2013 G-MAC All-Conference honors. Connor Inman (SR/Franklin, Tenn.) and Ryan Hogan (SO/Ballincollig, Ireland) earned second team recognition. Inman, a senior midfielder from Franklin, Tenn. scored six goals and added an assist to his total a year ago. Hogan, a sophomore from Ballincollig, Ireland was recognized for his defensive contribution in his freshman season. Braydon Brown (SR/Brownsburg, Ind.), senior keeper was honored with an honorable mention selection, posting a 1.91 goals against average

Men's and women's cross country (@TNUxcTrack) have their first race of the season on Friday, September 5. The Trojan's will take part in the Queen City Invitational in Mason, Ohio. Both teams will be running a 5K event for the first race of the season.

 

The men's cross country team finished second at the G-MAC conference championships a season ago. Logan Rodgers and Ben Moroney, both freshmen at the time, finished sixth and seventh respectively. Both Moroney and Rodgers were honored with first team, 2013 G-MAC All-Conference honors. Rodgers also received the Freshman of the Year award.

 

The women's cross country team finished second at the G-MAC conference Championships last season, as well. The program returns three freshmen that were named to the 2013 First-Team G-MAC All-Conference team, Lindsey Mathis, Katie Hix, and Biz McLendon all with finishes inside the top seven.

Jayme Crowley starts her seventh season at the helm of the Trojan's volleyball (@TNUvolleyball) squad with four matches in two days in Huntsville Alabama on Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6. 

 

Trevecca will be taking part in the Huntsville Marriott UAH Classic. The Trojans will start their season against Miles College at 10:00 a.m. and follow that performance with a match against Southwest Baptist at 4 p.m.

 

The second day of action, Saturday, September 6, the Trojan's will face Quachita Baptist at 11 a.m. and host school Alabama-Huntsville at 5 p.m.

 

The Trojan's return two 2013 G-MAC All-Conference honorees, Katelyn Atkinson, and Delaney Hearne. Atkinson led the G-MAC in kills in her freshman season a year ago, averaging 3.12 kills per set from the outside hitter position. Atkinson was ninth in the conference with 2.80 digs per set. Hearne, was 10th best in the conference with 0.65 blocks per set.
