No. 4 Trevecca (41-5, 30-2) honored their seniors in dramatic fashion in a
double-header sweep of No. 17 Martin Methodist (39-10, 28-6) winning game one
3-0 and taking the second 4-3 in 10 innings.
The Trojans secured their fourth
consecutive TranSouth regular season title and a berth in the NAIA Region XI
Tournament. The Trojans are now 100-16 over the last two years and 147-31 over
the last three years. This is the third year in a row that the Trojans have won
at least 40 games.
Senior Brittiany Johnson (28-1)
pitched a total of 17 innings and had a total of 27 strike outs between the two
victories.
In game one, Johnson had a nearly
perfect performance. She had a perfect game until a walk in the sixth and saw
the no-hitter slip away with two away in the seventh. TNU scored all three runs
in the third. Sammy Simon was 1-3 with two RBI and a double.
In game two, Trevecca scored a run
in the first and third innings before Martin tied the game with two in the
fifth. The game remained tied until the 10th when the RedHawks plated a run on a
bobbled infield grounder. Trevecca rallied with two in their half of the 10th
for the win.
Trevecca will finish the regular
season with a conference double-header at Crichton College (11-33, 9-21) at 2 p.m. on
Saturday.
