Trevecca Track and Field | Trojans Set Records in Gulf South First Day

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The 2025 Trevecca Nazarene University outdoor track and field season began its final regularly scheduled event on Wednesday, as the Trojans joined six other teams in Montevallo, Alabama for the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championships. On Wednesday, the meet began with a trio of races on the track, three field events, and the beginning of the multi-event competitions.

Trevecca had 19 athletes in action on Wednesday, and Margaret Chauncy got the Trojan women on the team scoreboard with her performance in the pole vault. Campbell Johnson broke the school record in the 100m Hurdles.

Chauncy cleared 2.95 meters in the pole vault, a mark that was good for sixth in the event and earned the Trojans three points toward their team score. In men's action, Joshua Novotny claimed the Trojans' sole top-10 event finish on the day, as he crossed the line in 10th in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 32:41.33.

Six personal bests fell for the Trojans on Wednesday, and two other season best marks were set. Campbell Johnson (16.58) and Nina Willoughby (18.08) each set new personal records in the 100-meter hurdles that came as a part of the women's heptathlon competition. Leighton Varden clocked a new personal record time in the men's 200-meter preliminaries at 21.90 seconds, Brooklyn Rader launched the hammer a new personal record 24.51 meters, and Joel White (34:19.08) and John Dalton (34:54.24) each set new personal marks in the men's 10,000 meter run.

Grant Allen posted a season best time of 22.58 seconds in the 200-meter prelims, and Ashley Alsvig ran her fastest time of the season in the women's 2,000-meter steeplechase at 12:34.82.

Johnson and Willoughby are the only Trevecca athletes competing in a multi-event, and with day one of the heptathlon complete, they sit eighth and ninth, respectively, through four events. Johnson has a total of 2221 points, and Willoughby has 1749 points with three events remaining.

Thursday will see the conclusion of the heptathlon, with the running of the 800-meter run, the long jump, and the javelin completing the multi-event. On the track, the men's and women's 100-meter prelims, the women's 100-meter and the men's 110-meter hurdle prelims, and the men's and women's 5,000-meter runs will take place; and in the field the high jump, the triple jump, and the discus throw are on tap for Thursday.
