TREVECCA BASEBALL | Winning Streak Reaches Seven as Trojans Sweep Union 15-4, 4-3

JACKSON, Tenn. The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team capped off one of the best weeks in recent memory on Saturday on the road at one of their oldest rivals. The Trojans met up with the Union University Bulldogs in Jackson, Tennessee, and Trevecca spoiled the fun for the home standing Bulldogs again.

Trevecca (20-6, 13-2 GSC) blasted a pair of grand slams in game one - a 15-4 Trevecca win - before Ryan Sweeney locked down his third save in five days as the Trojans beat Union (10-15, 4-11 GSC) 4-3 in the series finale. Trevecca has now won seven in a row - five of them away from home, and four against teams ranked in the top-5 at the time of the game.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The meetings were the 62nd and 63rd between the Trojans and Bulldogs since the 2000 season, and the Trojans are now 36-26-1 in that span. Trevecca has now won five straight overall, and they have an 11-game winning streak at Fesmire Field in Jackson.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1

Union plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first to break the seal, and they held that lead into the third inning. That's when the Trojans' patience at the plate led to another big inning. Trevecca drew four walks as a part of a stretch that led to six straight batters reaching base. Rylan Moses, Caleb Webster, Cade Martin, and Cade Moore all drew free passes, and in amongst those free bases, Noah Boughton singled to bring in the tying run. The fourth walk of the inning - the free pass to Moore - forced in the go ahead run, and Jaxson Christ doubled home the Cades to push the Trevecca lead to 4-1. Landon Rogers later reached on an error that led to two more Trojan runs crossing the plate, and after two and a half innings, Trevecca led 6-1.

Martin drove in Moses on a ground out in the fourth to increase the lead to 7-1, and that was plenty of support for Logan Harrell. Harrell threw into the seventh inning, and he scattered seven hits without walking a batter. He also fanned seven Bulldogs.

Union cut the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth, the Trojans answered again, as Martin belted his third home run of the week - this one a grand slam to dead center field - and the Trojans took an 11-3 lead. A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases again for Trevecca in the top of the ninth. Alex Fernandez then stepped up and launched his first home run in a Trevecca uniform over the scoreboard in left field for the Trojans' second grand slam, and the Trojans coasted home with the 15-4 win.

GAME 2
Trevecca scored first in game two. Luke Dymond got things going with a two-out single up the middle, and he moved up to second on a wild pitch. Rogers pulled a double inside the bag down the third base line two pitches later, and Fernandez followed with an RBI single that plated Rogers to put Trevecca ahead 2-0.

Union got a run back in the bottom of the second, but Trevecca answered in the third again. Noah Boughton launched a home run to right center with one out, and after he reached on an errorMoore scored on an RBI single from Christ that put Trevecca up 4-1.

Union chipped away, as they plated a run in the fifth, and another in the sixth, both charged to Trevecca starting pitcher Spencer Wilkins, but Ryan Sweeney came in and stranded the tying and go-ahead runners on base in the sixth. The Trojans were unable to add any offense in the seventh, but Sweeney remained in the game and worked a 1-2-3 seventh to secure his third save of the week and the 4-3 Trevecca win.
