TREVECCA BASEBALL | Trojans Take Series Opener at No. 1 NGU Behind Pitching, Homers

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Early in the 2026 season, the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team has played well, but one area where the Trojans had struggled was in mid-week pitching depth. On Tuesday at top-ranked North Greenville University, the Trojans took a big step towards answering some of those concerns.

Facing an offense that ranks in the top-10 in NCAA Division II in seven different categories including doubles, home runs, and slugging percentage, Trevecca (16-6) pitching held North Greenville (19-3) to only six hits - none of them for extra bases. Meanwhile Trevecca got a trio of dingers to take the win over No. 1 NGU, 5-1.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The game marked the ninth meeting between the two teams since 2000. The Trojans swept regular season series in 2005 and 2006, while the Trailblazers took both games last season. The Trojans now lead the all-time series 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans struck first in the game, and it was Cade Martin who did the damage. In the top of the second, Martin took the fourth pitch he saw out for an opposite field home run to right field that put the Trojans up 1-0. After North Greenville answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, Martin struck again in the third. Back-to-back one out walks put two on, and with two outs in the frame, Martin came to the plate and homered again to the opposite field. This time, it was a 3-run shot that put Trevecca back on top, 4-1.

The power surge continued for the Trojans in the top of the fifth. Caleb Webster stepped into the plate and unloaded on a 1-0 fastball to left field - the Trojans' third round-tripper of the day, and it put Trevecca ahead 5-1.

That was plenty for the Trojans' pitching staff. Justin Lee threw the first five innings for the Trojans, and he allowed only one earned run on three hits, he walked two and struck out four. As good as Lee was, the bullpen was even better. Kayne Jinks and Ryan Sweeney got the final 12 outs of the game, and they combined to allow only four base runners in those four innings. Jinks worked the sixth and into the seventh, before giving way to Sweeney who recorded the final seven outs for his fifth save of the season.
