DADE CITY, Fla. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team opened their spring schedule at the Saint Leo Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf Course. The course played to a par of 72 over 7,121 yards.
The Trojans finished 12th at the 54-hole event with an 867 (295-281-291). The team had a 576 through the first 36 holes. The Trojans scores equal the lowest 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole rounds of the year.
The Trojans combined to shoot at seven-under-par 281 in the second round. The season best round was fueled by three Trojans posting a negative number. Borders (-6), Burton (-2), and Lowry (-1).
Maddox Burton (210 / -6) and Wilson Borders (214 / -2) both shot under par for the tournament.
Burton, Borders, and Weston Lowry combined to turn in five rounds in the red. Borders shot a 66 (-6) in the second round. Burton turned in a red number in all three rounds. He shot a 70 (-1) in the first round, 70 (-2) in the second round and a 69 (-3) in the third round. Lowry carded a 71 (-1) in the second round.
The field included 17 teams and 100 individual golfers.
TROJAN HIGHLIGHTS
Maddox Burton
His 16 birdies tied for third best in the field.
Tied for fourth in the field with a 2.83 (-2) average on the par three holes.
Wilson Borders
Tied for 11th on the par four holes with a 3.97 (-1) scoring average.
Tied for 11th in the field with 36 pars.
