LEXINGTON, Ky. – Trevecca Nazarene University STUNT (2-0), ranked #9 in the College STUNT Preseason Poll, opened the 2026 season Sunday at the 2026 Bluegrass Classic, hosted by the University of Kentucky at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The Trojans earned a decisive 23-1 victory over #21 St. Edward's University (0-2), from Austin, Texas, in their season opener, before squaring off with longtime rival #8 Ashland University in the second match of the day. TNU defeated Ashland 23-20 in another classic in the series to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Trevecca and the rest of collegiate STUNT entered the 2026 campaign with added momentum, as the season began just two weeks after the NCAA officially approved STUNT as a championship sport. The first NCAA STUNT National Championships are projected to take place following the conclusion of the 2027 season.
GM 1 Recap: St. Edward's
Trevecca jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the SEU Hilltoppers in the first quarter, narrowly missing a perfect score. St. Edward's got on the board in the second quarter, but the Trojans carried a 7-1 advantage into halftime.
Trevecca was dominant in the second half, capturing all 16 available points — four in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth — to secure the 23-1 victory. It was the first meeting all-time between the two schools in STUNT.
GM 2 Recap: Ashland
The Trojans led 8-6 at the half, taking the first quarter 3-2 and the second 5-4. The Eagles were up to the challenge, taking a 12-11 lead going to the fourth quarter up 12-11. The Trojans returned the favor, rebounding with a 12-8 victory in the fourth for the 23-20 win.
The Trojans have won three of the last four meeting, tying the all-time series at 4-4. The teams met four times during the 2024 season, with the Eagles winning three of those contests. Trevecca responded in 2025 by taking two of three meetings.
The two nationally ranked programs have produced several classic meetings. In fact, three of their eight all-time meetings have gone to overtime. Two of those overtime games were at the STUNT Nationals. Their very first Nationals battle, in 2024, is the first STUNT Nationals game to go to overtime. One year ago, at the 2025 Bluegrass Classic in Lexington, the teams battled through two overtimes.
Six of the eight matchups have been decided by three points or less, underscoring one of the most competitive rivalries in College STUNT.
UP NEXT
The Trojans head to the west coast to play in the Hope International Royal Rumble. They play #3 Concordia Irvine (1-0, (NAIA #1) Hope International (4-0) on Feb. 5 and then take on #10 St. Mary's (1-1) and Northwest Nazarene (0-0) on Feb. 6. On Feb. 7, they face #6 Vanguard (0-0) and Fresno Pacific (0-0).

2026 – Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC)
Trevecca joined the Great Lakes Valley Conference in October 2025 and was selected to finish second in the eight-team league in the preseason poll. Maryville was picked to finish first, just ahead of the Trojans.
Purdue Northwest was slotted third, followed by Ferris State, Drury (host of the postseason tournament), Lewis, Quincy, and Southwest Baptist.
2025 – Mid America West Conference (MAWC)
In 2025, the Trojans competed in the Mid America West Conference as the league's only non–NCAA Division I program. Trevecca finished second in the regular season behind the University of Kentucky and advanced to the MAWC Finals, where the Wildcats completed a season sweep by claiming both the regular-season and tournament championships.
Trevecca reached the highest national ranking in program history, opening the NCAA Division II STUNT Championships ranked No. 5.
The Trojans posted a 24-2 regular season record and finished 5-1 in conference play. They went 3-2 at the MAWC Tournament and 1-2 at nationals, closing the season with a 28-6 overall mark.
2024 – Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC)
Trevecca competed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference during its inaugural STUNT season in 2024. The Trojans finished 18-9 overall and posted a 9-1 record in G-MAC regular-season play, earning the No. 1 seed in the conference championship tournament.
Trevecca advanced to the NCAA Division II STUNT National Championships in its first season and climbed as high as No. 6 in the national rankings.
STUNT is a head-to-head competition between two teams that focuses on the technical and athletic aspects of cheer. It is one of the fastest-growing female sports in the United States.
