NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Fred Bailey, a freshman guard on the Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team, was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026. It marks the fourth time this season and the second consecutive week the Pope John Paul II product has earned the honor.
The 6-foot-2 Hendersonville native averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game for the week. Bailey shot 6-of-11 from the field in each contest, finishing the week at 54.5 percent (12-of-22).
Bailey came two assists shy of a triple-double in an 85-68 Gulf South Conference road win at Mississippi College. He recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds while adding eight assists.
A product of Pope John Paul II, where he played for former Trevecca men's basketball standout Charles Wade, Bailey helped lead the Trojans to a 1-1 week. Trevecca opened strong at Delta State but fell behind late, dropping a 92-78 decision to the Statesmen.
On the season, Bailey ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game. He is averaging 6.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 77.1 percent from the free-throw line. He has recorded three double-doubles and has narrowly missed a triple-double on multiple occasions.
Trevecca is 10-5 overall and 5-4 in GSC play, sitting fifth in the conference standings after being picked eighth in the preseason coaches' poll. The Trojans also own the fourth-best scoring offense in the league.
In his first season at the helm, head coach Nate Moran has guided Trevecca to its 10-5 start. Picked eighth in the preseason, the Trojans have exceeded expectations through the first half of conference play.
Trevecca returns home Thursday, Jan. 15, to host Christian Brothers University (2-11, 1-8 GSC) at Trojan Fieldhouse, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Buccaneers were picked 11th in the GSC preseason poll. Iman Kheirati ranks second in the conference in rebounding at 9.3 per game, while Marquis Gill is fifth in scoring at 16.9 points per contest.
Union University (7-8, 3-6 GSC) visits Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 17, for a 4 p.m. tipoff. The Bulldogs, picked sixth in the preseason poll, feature the conference's leading scorer in Will Lovings-Watts, who averages 18.4 points per game.
