Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Contain Flames at Fieldhouse

NASHVILLE – It is a long-standing maxim in basketball that if a team controls the defensive rebounding battle, they put themselves in a great position to win the game. On Sunday afternoon at the Trojan Fieldhouse, that was proven true once again.

Trevecca (9-4, 4-3 GSC) dominated on the glass in their first Gulf South Conference tilt of 2026, grabbed 32 of 37 rebounds off missed attempts from the Lee University Flames (6-5, 3-4 GSC), as the Trojans took the 78-63 win. Trevecca has won six out of the last 10 meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca roared out of the gate, and they did so with solid defense. Trevecca held Lee to 1-for-8 shooting in the first eight minutes of play, and they forced four Lee turnovers as the Trojans built a 13-3 lead. The Flames rallied, though, as a 12-3 run pulled Lee within one at 16-15 with 7:43 remaining in the opening half. Trevecca answered with their own 7-1 run to build their lead back to seven, and after the teams went through an 85 second span where the teams traded 3-point buckets, the Trojans got layups from Fred Bailey, Tyler Moore, and Latham Binkley in the final minute as Trevecca took a 36-31 lead into the break.

Trevecca scored eight of the first 11 points of the second frame, with Brett Wright and Jeremy Jackson, Jr. each knocking down shots from beyond the arc, as the Trojans regained a double-digit lead at 44-34 in the opening 4:27. Trevecca held the lead for the rest of the afternoon, and with 6:57 to play, a Jax Abernathy layup ignited a 10-2 Trojan run that put the game away. The run built Trevecca's lead to 69-53, and Lee did not get closer than a dozen points in the final four minutes, as Trevecca took the win 78-63.

THE TEAM
Trevecca made nearly half of their shots again, as the Trojans finished the game 26-for-53 (49.1%) from the floor, and they made 10 of 27 (37%) from long distance. The biggest difference in the game came in rebounding where Trevecca held a decisive edge. The Trojans held a 41-25 edge on the glass overall, and while Trevecca corralled nine of their 29 missed shots, they allowed Lee only five second chance opportunities on 37 missed shots from the Flames. The Trojans led in four of the five enhanced scoring breakdown categories as well: 20-16 off the bench, 9-6 on second chances, 32-26 in the paint, and 11-2 on the fast break.

THE PLAYERS
Bailey led three Trojans in double figures with 17 points, and he added a season high nine assists in the win. Wright knocked in five of his seven shot attempts - all from beyond the 3-point line - for a 15-point effort, and Da'Shon Fisher chipped in 11 points. Bailey, Jackson Jr., and Spencer White each reeled in six rebounds, and Fisher added a pair of blocked shots.

UP NEXT
Trevecca will hit the road for a difficult GSC Road Tip to the Magnolia State on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon. Trevecca will head to Cleveland, Mississippi on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Delta State University (5-8, 2-6 GSC), and they will be in Clinton, Mississippi on Saturday for a matinee tip against Mississippi College (7-7, 3-5 GSC).
