NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's cross country team is picked to finish ninth of 12 teams in the 2024 Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
It is the first season for the Trojans in the Gulf South Conference following their 11-year run in the Great Midwest.
Lee University is the seven-time defending champion and predicted to win an eighth consecutive championship in 2024. The Flames return Aria Hawkins, the 2023 Gulf South Runner of the year and the defending individual champion.
Trevecca, fielding one of its deepest rosters in several seasons, will be led by several strong returners including senior Ruth Penney and sophomore Ashley Alsvig. Three freshmen are expected to contribute, including Remington Arney and Sarah Gwen Arnold of Murfreesboro and Ximena Acosta of Jackson, Tenn.
The Trojans host two meets this year. The Trevecca Opener on September 7 and the Michael Pretorious Invitational on September 28. The first trip to the Gulf South Championships come on October 26 in Valdosta, Ga. at the Valdosta State XC Course.
