NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University senior Ashley Alsvig and freshman Kate Brent have been named the Gulf South Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026.
The awards, presented by Athletic Solutions, follow personal-best performances at Saturday's Michael Pretorius Invitational at Andrew Jackson's The Hermitage Cross Country Course.
Alsvig and Brent both broke the 20-minute barrier over the 5K course, helping the Trojans finish third with 68 points in the first collegiate cross country meet held at The Hermitage.
ASHLEY ALSVIG | GSC RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Alsvig crossed the line in a career-best 19:24.68, finishing 10th overall and leading Trevecca for the second consecutive meet.
The senior's performance moved her to No. 21 on Trevecca's all-time 5K performance list and made her the 10th-fastest runner at the distance in program history.
Alsvig cut one minute, 0.92 seconds from her season-opening 20:25.6 at the Southern Showcase on Sept. 18 at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Alabama. She finished 32nd among 192 runners in that race, helping Trevecca place 10th among 26 teams.
Saturday's PR continued her steady improvement at Trevecca's annual home meet. Alsvig ran 20:46.2 at the Pretorius Invitational in 2023, followed by 20:10.8 in 2024 and 20:01.3 in 2025 before lowering her time to 19:24.68 this season.
KATE BRENT | GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Brent delivered her first collegiate sub-20 performance in just her second race for the Trojans, completing the course in 19:52.69 to finish 13th overall.
The Kingston Springs, Tennessee, native lowered her collegiate best by 59.31 seconds from the 20:52.0 she recorded in her Trevecca debut at the Southern Showcase.
Brent finished 46th among 192 runners in the season opener and has been Trevecca's third finisher and top freshman in both races this fall.
At Pretorius, Brent joined Alsvig and junior Sarah Arnold under 20 minutes. Arnold finished in 19:41.25, giving the Trojans three runners across the line within 28.01 seconds.
The Harpeth High School graduate becomes the second different runner to earn the GSC women's freshman honor this season, joining Christian Brothers' Eleni Stemmildt, who received the first two awards.
NEXT FOR THE TROJANS
Trevecca returns to competition Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois, before competing at the UAH Festival on Oct. 24 in Huntsville.
The Trojans return to Andrew Jackson's The Hermitage Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 6, when Trevecca hosts the Gulf South Conference Championships.
