NASHVILLE – The 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Softball Academic All-District® team is recognizing a quintet of Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans on this year's team.
CSC seeks to honor and celebrate student-athletes who represent the highest caliber of academic and athletic achievement through the annual Academic All-District® and All-America® programs. The five Trojans are - Alex Behnke, Anna Bennett, Sydney McCormick, Malone Thrift, and Ashlan Sensing.
All five now appear on the ballot for the 2024 CSC Academic All-America Softball Team®. The first, second, and third team Academic All-America honorees are to be announced on June 18.
The honors continue to pour in for the Trojans who learned this week they finished the season as the No. 16 team in the final NFCA Top 25 poll for 2024.
The Trojans hosted their first NCAA Regional this season, sweeping through the regional undefeated to advance to the first NCAA Super Regional in school history. The team finished with a record 47 wins, one win short of the NCAA Division II Softball College World Series.
Alex Behnke | 5-7 | SR | P | Old Hickory, TN | Donelson Christian
Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Data Analytics Track
The graduate student posted a 7-2 record with two saves on the season. Behnke produced two complete games and a shutout. Her season earned run average was 2.89 with 35 strikeouts over her 70.1 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .236 against the DCA Wildcat product.
Behnke finished her career third in the NCAA era wins list, saves, and appearances.
Anna Bennett | 5-6 | SR | OF | Lebanon, TN | Lebanon HS
Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL)
Bennett hit .382 on the year with 57 runs, 10 doubles, six triples, three home runs, and 32 RBI. The Lebanon Blue Devil product had a .455 on-base percentage and a .534 slugging percentage. She was successful on 13 of 15 stolen base attempts.
Bennett finishes her career tied for the NCAA era triples record and fourth in runs, hits, and doubles. She finished this season second in the NCAA era for triples and walks.
The Lebanon, Tenn. native set the Great Midwest career record with total bases and finished second in hits, triples, and walks.
Sydney McCormick | 6-1 | SR | 1B | Watertown, TN | Friendship Christian
Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Data Analytics Track
The Trevecca MBA graduate hit .291 on the season with 18 runs, 12 doubles, four home runs, and 26 RBI. McCormick led the team with nine sacrifice hits and had a .380 on-base percentage.
Ashlan Sensing | 5-6 | JR | P | DICKSON, TN | DICKSON HS
Nursing Bachelor of Science
The junior went 26-9 in the circle with 29 complete games, 12 shutouts. The Dickson County Wildcat product produced 247 strikeouts over 218 innings pitched. Opponents only produced a .203 batting average against Sensing.
At the plate, Sensing hit .349 with 16 runs, four doubles, and three home runs, driving in 22.
Sensing already owns the NCAA era career shutouts records and is second in wins, strikeouts, complete games, and innings pitched. She finished second in almost every NCAA era season pitching category this season.
The Dickson, Tenn. native set the Great Midwest career record for shutouts and earned run average.
Malone Thrift | 5-6 | SR | 2B | Cross Plains, TN | Dayspring Academy
Computer Science Major - Cybersecurity Digital Forensics Track
Thrift hit .230 on the season scoring 29 runs with four doubles, a triple, and a home run. The Cross Plains native drove in 20 runs and successful on 11 of 13 stolen base attempts.
ABOUT CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT / ALL-AMERICAN
The CSC Academic All-District and All-American teams are nominated and selected by CSC members. Chosen as recognition as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have played in at least 90 percent of their team's games (17 appearances or 25 innings pitched for pitchers) and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program separately recognizes student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
