FINDLAY, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (10-5, 3-2 Great Midwest) was swept by the University of Findlay (8-7, 5-0 Great Midwest) Oilers (13-25, 23-25, 24-26) on Friday.

THE SERIES

The Trojans are 1-7 all-time against Findlay. The Oilers won for the third consecutive time versus the Trojans.

THE FLOW

The Trojans were held up arriving due to travel issues on Friday and Findlay stormed out after a delayed start for an early 8-3 lead. The Trojans found their footing, but Findlay surged again with an 8-2 run to take the first set decisively 25-13.

Trailing 7-4 in the second set, the Trojans took their first lead of the match with an 8-2 run of their own, capped off by a Katie Crutchfield service ace, to make it 12-9. The Trojans kept the second set close after Findlay regained the lead but would ultimately fall 25-23.

The Trojans got going in the third set with a 7-3 lead led by three kills by Ellie Buffler and a service ace by Emilee McDonald. Later in the set, the Trojans built a five-point lead on the back of three kills by Maddie Wilds. Findlay began taking back the momentum as they tied the set at 16-16. Both teams traded points until it was tied at 21-21 following a Maddie Wilds service ace. But the third set went to Findlay 26-24.

THE NOTES

The Trojan's slow start was indicated by their .074 attack percentage in the first set. The Trojan outhit Findlay in the second set .227 to .107, but the Oilers had 12 total kills despite nine errors in the tight set. Findlay hit it well in the first (.480) and third (.319) sets.

Ellie Buffler (.292) and Maddie Wilds (.333) each dropped in 10 kills each.

UP NEXT

The Trojans head to No. 22 Hillsdale College (11-2, 4-0) tomorrow for a match at 12:00 p.m. before returning home to face Kentucky Wesleyan (2-10, 0-4 Great Midwest) on Tuesday.
