NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team had a chance on Saturday to clinch a top-four seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championship with a win on Senior Day. The Trojans celebrated their two seniors -
Katilyn Grant and
Anna Lott - before the match, honoring them for their time on the Hill.
Trevecca (14-14, 11-7 GSC) then took on the University of West Alabama (26-6, 13-5 GSC) in their final home match of 2026, and the Tigers took the sweep from the Trojans to clinch the No. 2 seed in the GSC tournament.
SERIES HISTORY
The win for UWA pushes the Tigers to the lead in the all-time series. After the Trojans won both matches over West Alabama in each of the first two seasons Trevecca spent in the GSC, the Tigers swept Trevecca this season to take the 4-3 all-time lead.
MATCH RECAP
Grant,
Kayla Bullard, and
Megan Ellis each notched kills early in the opening set as the Trojans took an early 5-3 lead. West Alabama, though, answered with an 8-1 run that helped them take the lead at 11-6 and moments later a 6-1 run pushed that margin to 17-10 for the Tigers. Trevecca struggled to string together points down the stretch in the match, and UWA took the first set 25-15.
West Alabama opened an early lead with three straight tallies to take a 4-2 edge early in the second stanza, but Trevecca kept the margin close throughout. UWA never led by more than four points, and a 4-1 Trevecca run pulled the Trojans within one at 14-13. As a part of the run, Bullard,
Jordan Hunt, and
Isabella Sherrod each had kills, but the Trojans were unable to draw even. UWA used a 4-1 stretch to restore a four point lead, but three straight TNU scores - with two of those points ended by Trevecca blocks - left the Trojans trailing 20-19. But the Trojans were not able to tie the score, and UWA held on to win the set 25-23 to take the 2-0 lead.
UWA built a 7-3 lead early in the third, but Trevecca used a 6-1 run that included a kill from Grant and two from Sherrod to take a 9-8 lead. The teams traded points until the Tigers took control with an 8-2 run that gave them a 19-14 advantage. Trevecca was not able to close the gap, and the Tigers completed the sweep with the 25-18 set win.
