The Trojans just completed their 52nd regular season and now have 34 winning seasons. In fact, in the NCAA-era the Trojans have just one season with a true losing record (22-23 in 2017) after the 2020 season was shortened due to COVID-19. With the completion of the 2022 season, the Trojans have a polished 75% winning percentage in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

This is the tenth season for Trevecca with an NCAA Division II schedule.

CHASE SAIN NOTES

Chase Sain is in his second season as the head coach at Trevecca and has already surpassed his wins total (36) from last season with no postseason activity. Currently, Sain (73 wins) only trails his predecessor Ryan Schmalz (77 wins) and Chris Collins (81 wins) for total wins through a coach's first two seasons at Trevecca.

            Overall: 73-26

            Conference: 45-15

            Postseason: 8-3

Sain has already guided the Trojans to their 19th season of 30+ wins, 14 of which include win totals of 35 or more. With a successful Great Midwest tournament, Sain can coach Trevecca to just its sixth ever season of 40+ wins in a year. A feat only four other Trojan coaches accomplished in their tenure.

INDIVIDUAL SEASON HOME RUN HISTORY

The single-season individual home run record belongs to senior Braden Odom. The Chesterfield, Indiana native has hit 23 home runs this season. That isn't the only record he has set or threatened this season.

He first broke the NCAA D2 Era individual season home run mark set by Hunter Newman who hit 18 during the 2015 season. Then he set his sights on Mario Campos and the all-time (NAIA / NCAA D2) single-season home run record. Campos owned that with his 21 home runs in 2001. Chris Collins just missed that mark too, he hit 20 home runs in 2002. Jeremy Todd took the home run record in 2000 when he hit 18 home runs. Roger Brown (1993) and Richard Perez (1988) shared the home run record for a few years. Perez hit his 16 in 1988 and Roger Brown connected on 16 in 1993. Eric LaVoie (1987) and Dave Crosier (1990) were the home run leaders with 14 before that.

GREAT MIDWEST PRESEASON FAVORITE

The 2022 Trojans were picked by league coaches as the preseason favorite to repeat with four first-place votes. In fact, the Trojans were tabbed as top-10 selections in both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason polls. This despite the Trojans roster taking a toll of losing 15 seniors from the College World Series run.

MIDWEST REGION PRESEASON FAVORITE

For the first time in school history, the Trevecca baseball team earned a No. 1 ranking in the 2022 NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association) Division II Midwest Region Preseason Poll. In addition, Braden Odom made the 2022 Preseason NCBWA All-Region team.

Braden Odom was one of 14 players from across the NCBWA Division II Midwest Region to make the preseason All-Midwest team. Odom is one of three outfielders on the squad.

Five of the 14-member team hail from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Joining Odom on the team are Austin Eifrid (Ashland / SS), Griffin Stevens (Tiffin / Utility), Brant Alzaus (Walsh / SP), and Perry Bewley (Ashland / RP).

Trevecca received six of the eight first-place votes. The other two went to Davenport University; Trevecca played in the 2021 Midwest Region championship. The Panthers were the first team to beat the Trojans in the postseason, but Trevecca bounced back to beat Davenport in the championship game to advance to the College World Series. Trevecca topped the preseason poll with 78 points, while Davenport gained 73.

The Trojans have never been ranked first in the region in the NCAA era.

MIDWEST REGIONALS

The Trojans have advanced to the NCAA Div. II Regional just once (2021). After winning the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Great Midwest tournament titles, the Trojans were never selected for an at-large bid to the Midwest Regional until they automatically punched their way to the tournament last season.

Trevecca nearly completed the sweep of the Midwest Region in 2021, finishing the tournament as champions with a 4-1 record and a run differential of +14 (37-23).

2021 POSTSEASON RUN: NCAA DIVISION II COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

The 2021 season treated the Trojans well. After sweeping through the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships, the Trojans attention turned to its first-ever NCAA Midwest Regional. The Trojans remained nearly untouched as they won the Midwest Regional Championship with just a single loss.

With the region title, the Trojans advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division II College World Series in Cary, NC.
