Trevecca Baseball | Host Southern Indiana Handles No. 7 Trojans in Series Opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – No. 7 Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (10-2) suffered their second loss of the season on the road at the University of Southern Indiana (6-1), the host Screaming Eagles beat the Trojans 11-3 at USI Baseball Field.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca swept a three-game series in Nashville against USI, but the Screaming Eagles lead the all-time series 8-6 after today's meeting. Trevecca has never defeated USI in Evansville, USI is 6-0 in the series at home.

It is the first time a GLVC team had defeated the Trojans this year. The Trojans are not 9-1 against GLVC teams this season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

USI took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first when Ethan Hunter scored from second on a double from Lucas McNew. Hunter reached on a walk from Trojan starter Caleb Bly and advanced to second on a stolen base.

Trevecca took the lead with two runs in the second. Roland Ryan hit a solo home run to tie the game. Later in the inning, David Milam scored on a single from Braden Odom. Milam reached on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second when Logan West drew a walk.

Another double from USI's Nolan Cook drove in the tying run (2-2) in the bottom of the second, scoring Tyler Wheeler who had reached on a single.

Trevecca regained the lead (3-2) when Jordan Jackson scored from third on a wild pitch in the top of the third. Jackson reached on a lead-off double, he moved to third on a Shawn Wallwork groundout. The Trojans bats didn't produce any runs the rest of the way.

The USI bats responded in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs on three hits, and a Trojan error. The inning put the home team up for good, 7-3. A walk and a wild pitch helped USI in the inning.

Another four runs went on the USI side of the scoreboard in the eighth. This time a walk, three hits including a triple, and a home run fueled the big inning sealing the outcome of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Screaming Eagles bats collected 13 hits while their pitchers and defense stranded 11 Trojans on the bases. Trevecca pitches walked three and put two USI batters on with hit-by-pitch. Trevecca produced nine hits and drew four walks and two advanced to first on a hit-by-pitch.

Trojan starting pitcher Caleb Bly (1-1) took the loss.  

Jordan Jackson, Shawn Wallwork, and Logan West all picked up a pair of hits. Wallwork reached three times with a walk, a single and double. Roland Ryan reached three times, a home run and two walks. Logan West also reached three times with a walk and two singles. Jordan Jackson and Bryant Goolsby also doubled.

UP NEXT

Trevecca gets back to action on Saturday with a doubleheader versus Southern Indiana. Game one first pitch is set for Noon.
