THE SERIES
The 10th all-time meeting favored the Trojans who trail 4-6 in the all-time series with the Cavaliers despite having won the past three contests.
THE FLOW
The Trojans jumped on the Cavaliers out of the gate, establishing a quick 8-2 lead off five kills and three Cav attack errors. Before the Cavaliers could get two more points, the Trojans had already collected 13 to force a timeout at 13-4. Midway through the first, the Trojans enjoyed as much as a 10-point lead before putting the Cavaliers away, 25-15.
The second set brought the teams' level as Walsh captured it 25-19 much in part to how it played midway through the set. Tied at 10-10, the Cavaliers strung together a 4-0 run to capture a 14-10 lead they would not surrender. After a timeout, the Trojans pulled as close as three but ultimately fell.
The third set changed the momentum. The Cavaliers looked to be rearing control with a 17-10 lead through the middle stages. However, the Trojans, behind three Ellie Buffler kills climbed out of a 21-13 hole tie the match at 24-24. Walsh looked at set point first off a Sami Raley attack error, but the Trojans secured the final three points to win, 27-25.
Walsh opened the fourth winning six of the first seven points and appeared to be on their way to forcing a decisive fifth set. However, the Trojans slowly chipped away at the deficit the rest of the set. Trevecca forced a tie at 21-21 after remaining competitive in the fourth. With the scoreboard once again reading 24-24 the Cavaliers once again had set point. Walsh surrendered its chance to push it to a fifth after a service error and attack error gave the Trojans a match point opportunity. A kill from the Cavaliers fended off the match point only temporarily as it was the Trojans behind kills from Emma Grace Rosson and Ellie Buffler who won the fourth, 28-26.
