Trevecca Volleyball | Oilers Take Down Trojans in Five Sets, Hillsdale Visits Saturday

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (8-4, 1-2 Great Midwest) fell to the University of Findlay (7-1, 3-0 Great Midwest) in five sets in Trojan Fieldhouse on Friday evening.

THE SERIES  

The University of Findlay leads the all-time series, 6-1. 

MATCH DETAILS 

Despite surrendering the match's first three points, the Trojans responded by piecing together a 9-1 to take command of the opening set. The Trojans offense was seemingly firing on all cylinders while the Oilers helped by offering several attacking and service errors. The Trojans won the first set handily, 25-13.

Adjustments were made in the second set by the Oilers who won the set, 25-20. Both teams traded points back and forth early before Findlay established a four-point advantage. Although the Trojans rallied to within two, ultimately Findlay leveled the match at a set apiece.

Trevecca battled back to take the third set aided mostly by a 6-0 run midway through to lead 15-7. From there, the Oilers closed the gap, but the Trojans won 25-19 when Journey Blevins' attack error gifted Trevecca the set.

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the fifth set and forced a Findlay timeout. Trevecca maintained their three-point lead at 6-3, but the Oilers' offense found their stride. Utilizing a 4-0 run, Findlay grabbed control of the fifth and didn't look back. Trevecca faced three match points and was only able to fend off three of them as Journey Blevins collected the kill to win the match 15-13. 

TOP PLAYERS  

  • For Findlay, Journey Blevins led all players with 24 kills and three digs.
  • Sami Raley led the Trojans with 11 kills, a dig, and four blocks. 

THE TEAM  
Trevecca produced a .237 hitting percentage, while Findlay hit .169. The Trojans had the edge in service aces with 10, while the Oilers had nine. Trevecca also had six blocks to Findlay's four.
