Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. – No. 22 Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (33-10), the 2021 NCAA Midwest Region second seed, rallied to defeat fifth seed Quincy University (28-14), 8-3, in game two of the region. It is the Trojans first NCAA Region win in their first try.
Trevecca advances in the winner bracket and play Friday at 4:00 PM against the winner of the Davenport vs Lindenwood game to played Friday at 9:00 AM.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
Trevecca and Quincy were scheduled to play today at 3:00 PM originally, but due to weather the time first moved up to 2:00 PM and then to the eventual 6:25 PM start time at Lou Brock Sports Complex at Lindenwood University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks scored a run in the top of the second on two hits and a hit-by-pitch. Nolan Wosman scored on a single from Justin Eads. Wosman led off the inning reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
The Hawks added a run in the fifth with the help of a Trojan error. Dayson Croes singled and drove in Jacob Kalusniak.
Trevecca got to Hawks starter and region pitcher of the year, Riley Martin, in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Harrison drove in Braden Odom, who reached on a hit with one out in the inning, reaching on a fielder's choice. Harrison stole second setting the table for Bryant Goolsby who singled to drive in Harrison, tying the game 2-2.
In the top of the seventh Quincy regained the lead when Jacob Kalusniak singled, driving in Joe Roscetti.
The game turned the Trojans way for good in the bottom of the seventh. Joseph McNamee walked to lead off the inning. John O'Dwyer reached on an error that resulted in McNamee at third and O'Dwyer at second. David Milam drew a walk next to load the bases.
Andru Becker reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error. McNamee and O'Dwyer scored to put the Trojans up 4-3.
The Trojans were not finished, Braden Odom singled to drive in Becker and Milam for a 6-3 Trojan lead. That was the end of the night for region pitcher of the year Riley Martin of Quincy.
Odom scored second and then third before Ethan Harrison singled to put the Trojans up 7-3.
Harrison stole second, but slide off the bag and was tagged out. Bryant Goolsby reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on a double by Shawn Wallwork.
Tiger Cox finished the great work by Trojan starter Drew Pierce with three innings of shutout work for the win.
ON THE MOUND/IN THE BOX
Drew Pierce (4-0) started and pitched six innings before giving way to Tiger Cox (5-0) after Pierce faced the first two batters in the seventh. Pierce allowed four hits and two earned runs. Cox gave up three hits with four strikeouts.
Braden Odom is the only Trojan with more than a single hit. The all-region performer collected two hits while scoring two runs, driving in two more, and stealing two bases. David Milam reached base and scored while also picking two runners off base, one on a stolen base and the other with a back pick at second.
Riley Martin (9-3) struck out 10 Trojans in the loss for the Hawks.

MIDWEST REGION NOTES
The Midwest Region is hosted by Lindenwood University of St. Charles, Mo.
Regional play starts Thursday, May 27 and concludes on Sunday, May 30.
The games are to be played at Lou Brock Sports Complex
The six-team double-elimination region field is made up of three automatic qualifiers (AQ) and three at-large selections.
The three automatic qualifiers are the conference tournament champions from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
The final three bids go to at large selections evaluated by the regional advisory committee then selected by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee based on distinct criteria.
The NCAA Division II Championship field includes 48 teams spread across eight double-elimination six-team regional sites. The eight regional winners advance to the finals where the national champion is determined in a best-of-three final series. The championship is June 5-12, 2021 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC.
