Box Score 2 NASHVILLE –The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (22-8, 17-3 Great Midwest) rebounded from a Game 1 loss to salvage a split against the University of Findlay in a Great Midwest Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon at Jackson Field.
Findlay (11-20, 9-15) won Game 1, 6-3, but Trevecca scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in the nightcap to pull out an 8-7 victory and take three of four games from the Oilers.
With the 3-1 series win, Trevecca has now won all six of its Great Midwest Conference series this season and the Trojans avoided back-to-back losses for the first time since March 12 and 13, when Trevecca lost a pair of non-conference games to Davenport on The Hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1
Trevecca got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning, as Braden Odom led off with a walk and moved to second on a groundout. Ethan Harrison then singled down the left-field line to bring home Odom and give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.
A two-run double with two outs in the top of the second put Findlay ahead, 2-1, but the Trojans tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. With one out, Harrison drew a walk and then stole second. John Anderson got another walk to put runners on first and second before Joseph McNamee singled to right field to bring home Harrison and level the game at 2-all.
The Trojan bats went quiet in the middle innings, though, mustering just two hits total in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. It was then that the Oilers took the lead, using a solo homer in the fourth and a single, two walks, and a balk in the fifth to plate a pair of runs and go up, 4-2. A two-run single with one out in the seventh added a pair of insurance runs for Findlay, making the score, 6-2.
Trevecca did get one run back in the bottom of the seventh – that coming on a solo homer by John O'Dwyer with two outs – but that was all the offense the Trojans could come up with as the Oilers took the opening game of the doubleheader, 6-3.
GM 2
The nightcap was a story in three acts: The Opening Inning, The Middle 7 Innings, and The Bottom of the 9th Inning.
The opening inning saw Trevecca score six unearned runs – all coming with two outs – on four hits, two hit batsmen, a walk and a passed to grab a 6-0 lead after just one frame. Jordan Jackson had a two-run single and Shawn Wallwork, Dalton Mauldin and Odom each had a run-scoring single in the inning to help the Trojans build a sizable advantage.
However, the middle seven innings saw Findlay score four runs in the second, one in the third and twice more in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead as Trevecca only had five hits total from the second through the eighth innings and it appeared Trevecca was headed for a split of the four-game series.
However, in the bottom of the ninth, Harrison started the rally with a two-out single. O'Dwyer then singled to right-center field and an error on the play allowed Harrison to scamper all the way home to tie the game at 7. Bryant Goolsby was hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second for Wallwork. Wallwork promptly singled to left-center field to bring home O'Dwyer to complete the rally and give the Trojans their seventh win in their last eight games overall and fifth victory in their last six contests on The Hill.
