NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (3-0) swept the University of Southern Indiana (2-4), 18-1 and 8-7, giving first-year head coach Chase Sain his first career wins and series sweep on Saturday. Trevecca defeated USI 11-2 on Friday in the series opener.

Trojans lead the all-time series 6-4 with the series sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GM1

Ten different Trojans collected at least one hit and three more reached base as the Trojans produced 17 hits and drew four walks and four hit-by-pitch. Trevecca scored two in the bottom of the first and added one in the third and in the fifth. Trevecca scored seven in the sixth, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth. USI scored their run in the seventh.

GM2

Game two looked like a repeat of game one as Southern Indiana scored a run in the second, but Trevecca responded with seven in their half of the inning for a 7-1 lead. Unlike game one and two of the series, the Screaming Eagles responded with a three-run third and a single run in the fourth and trailed 7-5.

Trevecca added the game-winning run in the sixth, but USI made it a one-run game with two in the seventh.

STATS REPORT

GM1

Ethan Harrison went 3-4 at the plate and scored four runs, drove in one, drew a walk, hit a home run, and stole four bases.

Bryant Goolsby and Brian Lee each hit solo homerun. Goolsby drove in four runs and Lee drove in two.

Chase Haley (1-0) started and pitched 5.2 innings allowing just two hits, two walks, and sat down three Screaming Eagles on strikes.

GM2

Brooks Helton (1-0) picked up his first career win in relief, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up three hits, a walk, and three runs while striking out four. Jay Benard earned the save (1), pitching the final 1.2 innings. Benard struck out two.

Ethan Harrison went 1-4 with a double, a run scored, a walk, two RBI, and his fifth stolen base of the day.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca hosts Davenport University (3-3) March 12-13. The teams are scheduled for two on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
