NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball Trojans (20-16, 13-7 G-MAC) moved into second place in the Great Midwest standings with a four-game sweep of Davis & Elkins (4-29, 4-14), 5-2 and 9-2, on Vs. Cancer Day at Jackson Field on Saturday. The team has already raised over four-thousand dollars again this year.

This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Trojans to reach the 20-win mark. Hitting the milestone in each of Ryan Schmalz seven seasons at the helm. The program surpassed 20 wins in 17 of the last 18 seasons. Schmalz, who reached 200 wins earlier in the season, is 214-137 all-time. The Trojans under Schmalz are 109-37 in Great Midwest play.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES:

The Trojans own a 22-1 edge in the all-time series. This is the final meeting for the Trojans and Senators at Jackson Field before D&E leaves the Great Midwest following this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE

Trevecca scored one in the bottom of the first of the seven-inning game and never trailed … the eventual winning runs came during a three-run fourth – after a double-play saddled the Trojans with two outs and the bases empty, Brandon Hauswald reached on a bunt single, stole second, then after Trey Vanderpool walked the duo pulled off a double steal, Javier Lopez drilled a three-run home run next … D&E got their first and only runs with a two-run sixth … TNU plated one more in the bottom of the sixth for the 5-2 final  

GAME TWO

Trevecca jumped ahead with a two-run second … the Trojans added the game winning run with a single run in the fourth … TNU added another solo run in the fifth … D&E scored their two runs in the seventh, but TNU got one of those back in the bottom of the inning … The Trojans left no doubt with a four-run eighth and the 9-2 final

GAME ONE

Javier Lopes (2-3) and /Sam Mang (2-4) produced multi-hit games with Lopez driving in three runs with two runs scored, a double, a home run, and a walk … Brey Vanderpool and Brandon Hauswald each had two stolen bases and with Hauswald scoring twice, but reached on a walk and a hit … Chase Douglas (4-2) pitched 5.2 innings with five hits and allowed two runs – both unearned – and walked two and struck out six … Jay Benard picked up the save (5) with 1.1 innings pitched allowing two hits and striking out two

GAME TWO

Five Trojans produced a multi-hit game and Cole Alsup pitched six innings of no-hit shutout baseball … Alsup pitched nine innings this week (three in his first career start vs Lee on Tuesday) and did not allow a hit or a run in either start … Sam Mang picked up three more hits completing his 10-13 week at the plate … Javier Lopez hit another home run and now has the team lead in RBI – Lopez has 32 RBI while Goolsby and Mang each have 29 … Branden Odom went 3-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and an RBI … Tanner Killian picked up his second save pitching the final three innings allowing a hit and striking out four

The Trojans used 14 hits and limited the Senators to just one hit … both teams had three errors after just one error was recorded between the teams in game one

WHAT'S NEXT

The Trojans visit Carson-Newman University (25-17, 7-11 SAC) on Tuesday at 1 PM. The Trojans are 2-3 vs Carson-Newman since 2014. The team heads to Cedarville University (12-24-1, 6-12 G-MAC) for a four-game G-MAC series with the Yellow Jackets next weekend. The Trojans are 29-4 vs Cedarville since 2013. The Trojans have won 17 in a row in the series.
